As you can see, you can get quite a few on your numpad...

Before you do any editing, save a copy of your original user.ini to a safe location in case you decide to go back to original or if you mess up.

You can take sections of my ini file and paste them into the correct location on your user.ini or use mine as a guide to make your own.

I've had many requests for keybind tutorials, but it's really easy.

Go to your Sierra, SWAT4, Content Expansion, System folder then open your user.ini with notepad. For things you want only your team to see, type teamsay. For things you want everyone in the server to see, type say. See above for exactly how it should look.

When you are done, save it. The next time you open swat 4 they will work for you.

Other commands like bold [b]message body[\b] or underline [u]message body[\u] also work.

As you can see, colors are good to have your message stand apart from other user chat.

[c=0000ff] for blue
[c=ff0000] for red
[c=00ff00] for green

Default color for say is green
Default color for teamsay is light gray or white...I can't tell Wink

There are others, but you get the idea.

For those who want a super easy way to create keybinds, here's the program I use -

You can change solid colors, use the gradient fill function (e.g. rainbow colored bind, etc.), underline, and bold.

Takes away having to know all the different codes and such.

While some SAS members reload weapons or handcuff someone, they can quickly say "I NEED BACKUP!" (and the other members cover immediately and respond, "I'LL COVER YOU")

This is a voice command associated with a keybind or they are just very very very quick to choose the voice command?

Can we associate a voice command to a key? 8O

It's part of a reload drill that new members are taught. When you need to go without a weapon to perform an action you call for back-up. Once someone is available and in position to cover your action, he responds with I'll cover you. Then the person is free to perform an unarmed action. Those are normal commands in the menu, and you get fast by frequent use.

My keybinds don't look like my upper post any longer. Maybe I'll update Wink

Just remember with keybindings, dont create anything that we already know.
For example, binding your fire button to the words "im shooting now"

Here's another piece I wrote about key binds...

The approach to keybinds should be to add them to supplement and complement the game's existing command menus. Are there things you often need to communicate through chat that aren't covered within the game's menus? If so, you are left vulnerable to attack while chatting and the speed and flow of the team is hindered. These are the best keybinds to add and should take priority over other types of keybinds.

Keybinds may be bound to action keys, but use caution with this because binding to keys like melee and handcuffing can spam the map and make it difficult for all team mates to find the important information in the scrolling text. Binding to tactical aids can also be troublesome based on how you word them. For example, if you press #3 to get a flashbang and your bind says "flashbang ready", except you have already used your final bang, and you just gave false information to your team. Perhaps "Reaching for flashbang" is a more accurate description of your action and can be followed up with "Can't do that" once you realise your mistake.

Critical keybinds:
1)directionals: left, right, forward, rear, up, down, close, far are all very handy and may be used to make other keybinds or orders more accurate.
2)audibles/visuals: contact heard..., footsteps..., hostage situation...go dynamic!, suspect, unarmed contact
3)coordination: hold, wait for go, point and cover (red team), back-up and rear gaurd (blue team)
4)actions: pick locks, swap positions, scan door/corner, out of ammo/reloading (never bind the need to reload to your reload action), need to flush cache
5)positional: pointman, coverman, EL, back-up, rear guard

Optional keybinds:
1)limited relevance: equipping primary, secondary, bangs, cs, stinger, pepperspray, multi-tool, optiwand, wedge

Not recommended due to spam potential:
1) melee
2) handcuffing

What I recommend if you want to express that you are punching and/or handcuffing is to create one keybind for unusual situations like for 2 man teams where it might be valuable for your partner to know you are occupied handcuffing or punching. Perhaps "Engaged with Contact" or have a second key for both that has a short message. Essentially you would have a normal use melee key and a special use melee key with a bound message and the same for handcuffing--one key for normal, middle of the element handcuffing and one for special use with a bound message.

All time stupidest keybind:
"Reloading, Cover Me!" bound to the reload action. What's the point? You didn't give anyone time to cover you! Your bind may as well have said, "I just reloaded without cover and I'm lucky to be alive." Why not just have a bind for "Taking a Nap" or "Not Doing my Job, Sorry". Just have a teamsay bind for "Reloading, Cover Me!" and then WAIT for someone to say "I'll Cover You" before reloading.

As far as where you put the keybinds, that's personal preference and ease of use and memory. For example, when I realize I'm low or OUT of ammo, I press the "O" key because to me it stands for "out" and delivers the message "Need to Reload!"

The bottom line is that keybinds can make communication faster and easier and avoid unnecessary confusion at critical points in the mission.

I also have some nifty keybinds for admin work like, NOT FOLLOWING ORDERS IS DISRUPTIVE GAMEPLAY or FIRST WARNING BEFORE KICK/BAN, FINAL WARNING BEFORE KICK/BAN, YOU WILL NOW BE KICKED, YOU WILL NOW BE BANNED, HAVE A NICE DAY...etc.

At any rate, have fun with your key binds.

Yes, all the menus are associated with voice if they are part of the game's original command, response, general menus.

I have yet to see anyone with key binds that have voices linked to them.

I updated my original post to reflect how my user.ini looks today.

My new keybind for the fire button could be "You drank my beer - take that alien dirtbag!" Blum 3 :yoda

Keybinds are useful - however LESS is MORE Exclaim

It's not cool to bind a "cover me" to the keys reloading and / or handcuffs Exclaim

"What's the plan?
Track'em, find'em, kill'em!"

Ditto on Bobby's statement. I've got the game from GOG now, but I've never bothered reinstalling it since it's too much of a hassle. It has worked fine for me. Perhaps some other versions don't work?

The alternative is that things have gotten really deserted in SWAT 4 right now, despite the recent player bump. Which it's not that far-fetched, but we've got next to no traffic nowadays.

My keybinds are a work in progress every day. I've even made a couple of changes since then. Also, I'll change my joke and insult keybinds to keep it fresh.

Updated to my most recent. If I've ever felt a desperate need to communicate something ESSENTIAL that is not already included in the game's Command, Reply, General menus...I have added it to a key bind.
