Hi, I'm planning to upgrade in the next 2 weeks mainly for Raven Shield (joke, Arma 3) and wondering what you guys think. Do you have any recommendations or changes you would apply? This is the system so far:
Intel Core i9 7900X (will be OC'd to 10x4,7GHz or more)
Asus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Strix OC
Asus ROG Rampage VI Apex
32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4-3600 CL16 Quad Kit
EK Water Blocks KIT X360
Corsair HX1200i PSU (not sure if this is too much, anyone?)
Phanteks Enthoo Primo Big Tower
Samsung 960 Evo 1000GB NVMe
or should I wait for Coffee Lake to release and get 2x 1080 Ti's instead? Or even a threadripper version?
Thanks
Shawty that PC is fine...overkill for just Arma 3 but you should have no problems LOL

LOL mate, just hope it won't lag or something else. Imagine me being in a fighter supporting you on the grounds. If there is lag right at trigging the bombs me or you is dead and then there is Sniper or other members that will take away my flying license.
Is he still playing btw.? Didn't see him awhile.
I just wet myself reading the specs.
What resolution is your monitor?

Haha DC. Right now 1080p but will be upgraded to a 32" 4k aswell.
Intel will be announcing i7 8700k 6 core CPU's on monday. Should I get that CPU and add another 1080 Ti for SLI at 4K gaming? What do you think? 10 core CPU with one 1080 Ti vs 6 core CPU and 2x 1080 Ti's

I run Arma 3 at 2560×1440 because 4K is to much for my machine. I think the bottleneck today is the graphics card, so I'd probably get 2x 1080 instead of a better CPU. Not sure though if Arma 3 has a bottleneck in terms of FPS.

Though thinking about I'm not sure if Arma supports SLI..

And Arma makes only very little use of multiple CPU cores, so single core performance is what matters. However my 5 years old i5 does a decent job, except for some really script-heavy SP missions
Arma should support SLI. Anyway, you will be better off getting a single better card than two of the same. Preformancewise. So the money you spend on two 1080s could be instead spent on a better card than that.

The ASUS 1080 Ti STRIX OC is already one of the fastest there. It also beats the TITAN XP (2017) without mods. I've been reading about games and SLI and it seems only 7 games out of 20 actually support it. Are you sure with Arma 3 and SLI Fluffy? I've also heard negative things about it that 1 performs better than 2, not sure if this is still up to date tough.
@Raptor
That's right so I will definetly be going towards 8700k which should be as the 7700k except 2 cores more as new games tend to use more cores.
Im pretty sure it supports Crossfire, at one point I had a Xfire setup, so I dont see why it wouldn't support SLI. I don't think two cards are necessary, your setup is already quite OP, you can always add one down the line if you choose.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Dropping a 1080 Ti, spare the money and getting an Asus ROG Swift PG278QR monitor instead. It's a 2,5k should be enough so I have headroom of performance. What do you think about this monitor?
To be honest SLI doesn't make much sense since there is 16 PCIE lanes and 1 1080 Ti already uses them all so 2 1080 Ti's would be on a 8/8 lane. Also only a handful games are supported by SLI and just isn't worth the extra 800€. Probably I will test only 1 first and if it's not fast enough I still can upgrade anytime or just live with it and wait for Nvidia Volta.
Hi pappa fluggo made me a pc but im not made of money and am looking for cheaper alternatives that will not handicap me performance wise, im not planning on running crysis on ultra but would like to play "recent games" at decent frames w/o having to run them @ 800x600. Below is my current to buy list and i check marked what I alrdy have. Sorry for my guetto photo of the list

Also, whats the difference between msi and asus released graphics cards? E.g. the 1060 has both msi variants and asus variants
And EVGA variants (one of which I recently bought), and Gigabyte variants, and whoever-wants-a-piece-of-the-graphics-pie variants. I think the main differences are going to be whatever the distributor of the card can come up with. Be it fans, heat spreaders, LEDs, colors, software, support and whatnot. You can usually find the specifications by looking up the model online.
As for cheaper stuff, you could always dive into the wild land that is the second-hand market, though I wouldn't know where to look aside from eBay. Or gamble with cheaper component alternatives, while making sure they still do the job properly.
I'm not really up-to-date when it comes to hardware questions, but I'll throw in my 2 cents:
Often there is more to it then just the looks. All the 1060's variants use the same GPU, but other parts of the cards differ. For example RAM size and/or clock, or even GPU clock itself. Its worth looking up some reviews/benchmarks to see which card offers most for the money. Furthermore, ASUS and MSI both usually offer a good quality, which unfortunately often comes with a larger price tag attached...
Speaking of prices: with a lower budget you might consider a cheaper graphics card. I'm pretty confident that there are decent options available for gaming below 400€. I got my Radeon R7 370 from HIS with 2GB for around 200€ (and that was last year). Certainly not high-end hardware, but it renders Tanoa with medium settings on 1680*1050 reliable with 25-30 FPS (unless there is heavy fog,..).
