A Window into the past of [SAS]

I found this whilst browsing deep into the archives of the Rainbow Six:Off Topic clanboard on the Ubisoft forums several days ago.

The title Speed Aggression and Surprise immediately caught my attention and to my amazement the post links to an old [SAS] website. It is incredible to see what the clan was like all those years ago and haunting to read through the member list of that time

So much has changed, and yet the fundamentals remain, this web site is a true monument to this clan.

I believe that is Coop's website, it was used when the site was being upgraded or something ages ago.

That site is from early 2005. It's not like it's from the SWAT3-days or anything.

Leon, change the year. It is well before then. But yes you are all right, it is Coops SAS backup site.

Last update is probably from late 2004, early 2005. That period. Hence Rct_Count, Rct_Rasa, Rct_Terran for instance.

I enjoyed the tactics page, while some of it is out of date it's presented in a much more clear and consise manor then the one we have now. It can't be too old because it has a relitivly recent (in years) rank structure and shows a foundation for the move into RvS. i.e. Armpatches and Smokes.

It has early S4 mods and mods of mods that eventially made there way into the SAS Mod.

Random and Heim (2IC) where LtCol's and we can see a few others as young SNCO/NCO. JB and Blade where LCpl, I remember JB from before he joined when I was encountered the servers. Plus our Dear Wiz was only a Rct.

I've been to the backup forum when I found it on Google.

Its a wonder Coop still has it up after all this time. Some nice stuff on the Mighty page too.

I'm happy Spidey, that you enjoyed it.

To me randomly coming across this website was very strange, i enjoyed reading the Live Ops section, and seeing recruits Wiz, Recon and Rasa on the memberslist Smile , and references to SAS_Rct_JB and SAS_LCpl_En4cer etc on the page showing all of the squadrons made me smile.

For a Recruit to see, this is very interesting

For a Recruit to see, this is very interesting

Here is some history from my own memory when I first discovered this clan.
(correct me if I'm wrong on the dates/ranks Smile ):

June 2004: I started to play RvS on multiplayer, and soon found TG#1 with all these SAS people with weird nicknames. "Rct", "LCpl"... "what the hell is that?". People on the server back in summer 2004 could be for example:
LCpl_Adze
LCpl_Taris
LCpl_ Hollow
Trp_James
LCpl_Glock
Cpl_Jay
Vet_Elite (actually)
Trp_Calm
Relenquish (PR)
Raptis (PR)
Cobra (PR)

July/August 2004: Raptis, Relish and En4cer became Rcts. I think Recon discovered TG1 and this clan that summer aswell. And I remember Rct_Bronco and Rct_Warhawk.

Autumn 2004: JB (JB_Books) and Blade showed up on TG1, and soon they both joined the clan.

December 2004/early 2005: Centurion joined (I think). Bodycount (Count) and his brother DM showed up, and became regulars, and they both became Rcts. Wiz became a Rct in that period too.

February/march 2005: Noah joined. I think I played with Spidey01 for the first time in that period.

Spring 2005: Rasa became a Rct (I think). A guy named Felt showed up, and soon he changed his name to Python, and became a Rct.

Summer 2005: Great summer. Alot of people were playing Ravenshield, Iron Wrath and Athena Sword. Recon became a Rct (for the second time) and Spidey joined too. I decided to join the clan in july/august.

November/december 2005: Rouge joined.

Yep... that was at least some history.

Coop did a great job with his site. You can tell he put alot of work into it.
It does bring back memories of when members first started out...what I thought about each person as they joined.

Tactics were a much faster read than they are now. I remember writing those tactics for the clan. I think they still generally stand the test of time.

I set out to write what I've seen in my tenor thus far from day 1 to now but it was too long. If any one wants to read it go check my blog

I'm out for dinner !!

Mmm, what a nice trip down memory lane.
