Want to play The Regiment in MP?

Ok, I'm sure most of you are familiar with the game here, so I won't introduce it.

Me and radical.ghost had a chat on the topic and decided to reinstall it and organize some MP fun.

Are you interested? If yes, drop a date/time when you can join up.

If you don't have the game, I highly recommend it, you can find it really cheap online.

The game doesn't need rented servers to host a decent game, so you can host your own, if you do so, and if you use password please use SASPWN as password so that everyone who reads this can join.

The Regiment is also based on same Unreal Engine that Swat 4 uses, so you can apply same tweaks to the game as in Swat 4 such as cache size, etc. It supports other things as well, some of them being keybinds although they are not useful in The Regiment and act buggy. If we revive the game, there's a possibility that if Swat 4 patch me and Mcfluffles work on is finished, can be ported to the game directly as it uses same engine.

Either way I hope we can organize some TR MP fun soon Biggrin

FIELD REPORT: Yankees scured, all X-Rays neutralized!

Me and radical.ghost had a 3-4 hour play in The Regiment MP yesterday. It was a fun experience to play the game again after so long, and it was surprisingly hard to play without passing the training (which I didn't have time to do prior the play in MP) There are few annoying bugs that can be easily tweaked in the game. The game lacked tactics completely but we improvised with the gear we've been give and invented flash signals. The AI seems easy and stupid ONLY when you learn the level, if the game had randomized ai positioning and speeded up ai animations it would be a lot more harder and perhaps give it more realism, another easy tweak. What surprised me was that injured AI would sometimes get up, sneak and find a weapon then stalk our squad except that this time ai would be a lot more dangerous. Unlike in Swat 4, the ai moves a lot and we got attacked and wiped off our 6 quiet a few times. There are no 1 shot kill bugs as well, and ai can take hostages, sometimes if injured would run off and hide in darker places.

Tactics we used:

1. Announce form, 1st to be pointman, 2nd coverman. Pointman would flash once for a flashbang, twice for a grenade, trice for swap positions. The same applies for coverman, except that pointman was lead.

This one proved to be hard-ish to manage, so we needed something more effective.

2. Announce form, 1st to be pointman, 2nd coverman. This time point would flash once for tac aid trice for swap.

This was improved speedier tactic, but still not what we wanted.

3. Announce form, 1st to be pointman, 2nd coverman. In this one, point would stack by doors if he wanted tac aid, tac aid would be decided by coverman, else point would storm in and coverman would follow, the 3 flash signal remained for swap. In addition when breaching doors, coverman would cook tac aid hot and toss it in.

This proved to be the best and swiftest tactic we used so far, and it helped us actually do decent scores.

Are you willing to join us? The game sort of made us more SAS mod hungry to be honest. And until it's released, TR can serve as great alternative as well as some fun source, it's not that bad as I expected it to actually be when I started playing it again, actually, gun models, camera shake aiming and ambient is a lot better than in Swat 4.

That's how I normally do it.

Single stack, full door open, 2nd throws DD, buttonhook on door, change up for room i.e. short or long.

Seems like there are 4-5 of us willing to play the game in MP and few more are in progress of getting the game and finishing the training. Join us Blum 3

By the way, AI in single player is a lot easier, while in multi player is a lot harder and also does more activities, I guess they did this to balance the gameplay, either way, the only way to beat the ai is to learn their position, and even then ramboing alone isn't an option.

FIELD REPORT: Doh, those suspects seem to be really tougher than we expected. It's a hard game, but we are improving.

Anyway, we managed to adapt another tactic formation that gave better results:

4. Pointman - Leads, requests tac aids by crouching and standing still or using the flash signals, 1 flash is flashbang/gas, 2 flashes means grenade, 3 flashes means swap positions. Additionally defuses bobby traps.

Coverman - Sticks close to Pointman, deploys tacaids, shoots suspects if there are more than 2 or Pointman runs out of ammo and needs mag change.

Doorman - Breaches doors, engages if both Pointman and Coverman need backup, scans corners, handcuffs suspects/hostages. Additionally provides double tac aid if necessary.

Rearman - Covers back, defuses explosives, removes trip wires, scans corners, handcuffs suspects/hostages, escorts hostages.

All four act as a team and stick very close, usually in a line. Storming is done only when situation determines so, ie after tac aids, timers or hostage situations.

Hey all, do you still play TR? Are you still interested in some fun TR games? Have you played TR while I was away?

I hope the answer is yes, if so, do say Blum 3

In addition, since TR has very bad MP chat functionality we could use SAS EVR's shiny TS3 S4 SAS MOD channel, assuming you have the access that is.

Also, these days even though still very much busy with RL I play sas mod more, PG seems to be always full and busy, so we could use this discussion to organize some sas mod TG rounds as well (also TS3 could come in handy)

Yes yes and yes! I'm definitely looking forward to rounds of TR again!

I've been wondering though, I was able to open up TR's soundfiles in swat 4's UnrealED and it made me wonder if it'd be possible to use UnrealED to open and change the default maps in TR. Could get interesting to build a full replica of the Iranian embassy or replace all the targets in the training with live ones.

I'd be up for a few SAS Mod rounds too, just give a time and date! Wink

Ok, so I re-installed The Regiment and set it all up, I'm ready for some TR rounds again, hope we can organize some via xfire Blum 3

Yes Master, it is entirely possible. It may ( with some checks) be possible to convert the maps to use in S4 or Rvs, as they all run via the unreal engine.
