I saw this on a thing on the history channel. It's very interesting but I don't see any practical reason to employ them besides the biggest can of woop'AAA you can get.,
If they ever made these things suitable for the troops I'd sure not want to reload one ^_^
sounds a lot like US patriot or UK rapier

I would just like to be the first to say... that these weapons are absolute pieces of garbage and belong nowhere near a battlefield. They don't have a decent working prototype that can be used over and over with any real success. This system, as I have seen it, has only been proven to work in simulation, and has never performed a successful field test to my knowledge. If I am wrong please correct me, but as far as I am concerned, the Metal Storm system is useless.
Well if you had a huge 40ton bipedal tank coming after you with pretty strong armor I'm sure a 120mm HE Metal-Storm weapon would be handy, but how far away are bipedal 'Mech tanks ?
I'm currently reading the 3rd book in a series. The books by John Birmingham Weapons of Choice Word War 2.1, Designated Targets World War 2.2 and not Final Impact World War 2.3. It’s about a 2021 task force going back in time to 1942. It’s extremely action packed and a dam good read. Who knew that Prince Harry would be in the SAS.
Anyway a lot of the ships use a device called Metal Storm, mostly for AAA and incoming munitions. If it turns into anything like it is in the book which is very very believable then look out!
Oh and I strongly recommend this series of book, I really don’t like sifi but these books are outstanding!
