The Boston Bruins have defeated the Montreal Canadiens in OT and have won the best-of-seven series 4 games to 3.
As always, a hard-fought rivalry and great hockey.
I was nervous when Montreal tied it up 3-3 in the final minutes of regulation sending the game into overtime.
The OT goal was on a monster deflection and the puck just snuck past the left pad of the Canadiens' goalie. Tough break there for sure.
Now let's see if Boston can do anything in the next round!
Not to bash soccer, but hockey is much more exciting than soccer any day of the week. What is funny is that whenever a hockey player takes a dive to try and draw a penalty, they always say the guy "flopped on the ground like a soccer player" or words to that effect. That's code for he really didn't hit me, but I'm going to make it look like he tried to amputate my right leg.
What I'd like to see is the next time someone takes a phoney dive in soccer is the guy who supposedly fouled the dude just walk up to him and beat the snot out of him then turn to the referee and say, "...Now I hit him!"
That would be worth the price of admission!

I can think of a few names of players who would never be out of the hospital. And funnily enough thats the kind of player that Vinny Jones was.

I do agree with you Randon on Hockey is way more exciting then soccer, but I'm mad that montreal didn't win that serie: they have let go a 2-0 lead in the serie. Yesterday though was a very exciting match but the Bruins will be out next serie
Now I'm taking for vancouver canucks since I've bet on them to win the cup this year. They kinda made me scare after loosing their 3-0 lead in the serie against Chicago.

We'll see. I really don't follow the Bruins during the season and I don't think I'll watch the first few games. If it goes past game 5, I'll watch.
Vancouver, eh? Maybe.

I know Nashville just won their first series ever against the Ducks and their next opponent is the Canucks and noone is giving the Predators a snowball chance in hell that they win.... I don't care
Go Preds.......
Boston 3-0 in their series next game is Friday night at 8pm
Tampa Bay swept their series 4-0 and have advanced
Vancouver 3-1 in their series ; next game is Saturday night at 8pm
San Jose 3-0 in their series ; next game is Friday night at 7pm
The second round has proven to be a formality to this point. These four teams have dominated or are dominating their series, so above are the likely semi-final match-ups. A Boston-Vancouver cup final is at least possible. Boston needs one more win against the Flyers. Then we have to find out if Boston can ground the lightning before they get scortched. When Boston has scored first in the playoffs they are 5-0. When the opposition has scored first, Philly has been 1-5.
To this point, Boston has relied on solid even-strength defense, winning face-offs and controlling center ice. Of course, Tim Thomas in net has been hot lately as well.
It should be an interesting weekend of hockey sur glace!

Hockey is the fastest pace game going. Imagine NASCAR with half the cars going clockwise and the other half going counter-clockwise.
Soccer is like doing the same thing with no cars and using 80 year olds with walking canes. It's like watching traffic from an airplane. You know the cars are moving faster, but you just can't tell because of the scale. Soccer fields are just too large for the speed people run at.
Anyway, Boston swept the Flyers. San Jose and Vancouver have 3-1 leads in their series. Let's see what happens next.
The Flyers had it tough. They only generated 23 shots on goal in game 4. That's not how to get a win.
Oh yeah...most soccer teams don't generate 23 shots on goal all season.

It's not looking too good for my Predators.... However I believe they have one more game in them.... Win or lose toight they will play their hearts out in Vancouver.
Hmmm. That prediction didn't work out for you, did it Nick?

Typical, ESPN has been removed from our subscription service. No more hockey games for me. (Not that I knew that much about its teams, but I certainly enjoyed watching the games.)
The Bruins did play good hockey against the Flyers, but the Flyers on their side were dead. Bad time to play your worst hockey of the year.

It looks like Detroit and Nashville are not dead yet. The first two series were won by the underdogs. That may give San Jose and Vancouver cause for some concern. They need to focus and play to their potential or they will find themselves playing 7 games. When that happens, who knows what the outcome will be. Anyone can get up for 1 game of winner-take-all.
On a side note, I'm sure the two teams who have already advanced are enjoying the extra time off and the ability to heal some minor injuries.
Nick is a Canuck fan.
JB is all in for Nashville.
I have Boston.
Any other fans out there?

Also, most soccer matches end regulation time 0-0 score. Then after overtime, maybe it will be 1-0.
But at least you see some great stunt work and acting as the players fall down around each other when someone gets close them. Imagine the acting we would see if there was any real contact!

Soccer is fun to play but is boring to watch. Hockey is fun to play and to watch. The Canucks are now going to the West Conference Final. They are 1 step closer to the cup

Can we please stop calling it Soccer. It is football, the players use their feet to move the ball around during play.
Not like American Football where players use their hands to move the ball in play. What is that about?
Hockey is just wrestling without the face paint pre-madonnas, just toothless ones lol.

I would not say games are boring. My team always wins atleast 3-0 (all goals by Cristiano Ronaldo of course). And to the diving point, yes you're right. There are some out there (Messi, Dani Alves). But the most players don't even dive (Cristiano Ronaldo). It just looks like it because if you are running fast, you can fall easily, right? I experienced this myself often, lol. You're losing your movement and you will just fall m8. You can't do much about it. Also you will need alot of skills to be able to play football. That's what I like about it. It won't get boring ever. You always can practise new skills, shot techniques and so on. For me the best sport of all time. And yes, it's called football, not soccer.

Cristiano Ronaldo - the non diver.
Once more Cristiano Ronaldo the non diver.
Indeed. St. Pauli - Bayern Munich right?
My team just played 4:0. Cristiano Ronaldo scored 3 of these. Now 2 more goals for him left to break records at Madrid.
@Malty, that was just for fun. He apologized after and laughed together. By the way, thats 4 years old now. He doesn't dive anymore. He grew up!

Um shawty the first gif there is from Last Year. Ac Milan vs Madrid Nov 4th 2010. He still dives, how you cannot see this is amazing!
Also if you're gonna selectively pick a Messi, (dunno why you have as he's not relevant to the fact that Ronaldo is a profilic diver) but please bear in mind Messi usually get's the crap kicked out of him by Madrid.

Boston and Tampa Bay both swept their series 4-0
Vancouver has now advanced as well. (Canada still has a team in the playoffs!)
The last slot will be filled by either San Jose or Detriot. Let's not forget that San Jose was up 3-0 in this series and it's now 3-3 moving to a decisive seventh game. Normally, I'd say it would be difficult to win 4 straight games, but the Bruins and the Lightning have just done that very thing, so who knows. Also, San Jose was a slight favorite going into the series.
The matchups for the semi-finals will be:
Boston v Tampa Bay
Vancouver v (the winner of the SJ/Det series)
Malty....I love those two quick vids. Hard to refute what can be seen with your own eyes.
The only soccer that was ever remotely interesting to me was when they played it on a hockey rink and put down artifiicial turf. The goals were recessed into the end boards, so if a shot missed, it bounced back into the field and people kept playing, sometimes even resulting is another shot on goal or a break out going in the opposite direction. No corner kicks. There are no corners in an oval even though they call it "the corners" in the game. When the ball went into the stands, the other team just took posession at the spot it went out and you kept going. It was epic!
I think it was MISL soccer if I'm not mistaken. Check this out if you want to see some highlights.

Soccer is just how Americans call it. When i discuss sport with anyone international on xfire or whatever i like to call it soccer cos there is no missunderstanding beetween soccer and american football...and since we are an international clan its correct also, right?
