It depends what kind of dowloading you mean, generally I use Seamonkey's download manager or 'fetch' to download stuff. Fetch is a tool for making quick use of libfetch off the CLI, kinda like WGet but smaller.
I also use ftp, the client included /w FreeBSD when I need a FTP client and wxDownload Fast as a download manager when I want to download big files in multiple parts, some times I will ues Bit Torrent (offical client) instead for downloading big 600+ MB files like .iso images for burning my *nix install CDs.
The signle most used program Iuse for downloading is a web browser, because I surf a lot of pages
