The thing about succession is that it starts with 'success'. SAS continues to be a highly-successful, long-term force in team-based online gaming.
Having lead this excellent group for longer than all other Commanding Officers combined, I think that puts me in a singular position to make that assertion.
Some of you might be reading this and think that I've given up or something might be wrong. Let me assure you that I haven't given up on it, and certainly nothing is wrong. Today, as always, SAS has stability in leadership, membership and finance. To borrow a phrase, "The state of this union is strong."
As the officers know, I've been planning to step aside for quite some time, but events relating to a certain splinter group sort of forced my hand to continue at the helm. That is all behind us now and we are again at another peak in our journey. I may now leave on my terms and not anyone else's. For you who carry on the tradition, you know this is a worthy endeavor and how unique this team is within the community. To simplify things, I just don't have the time to invest on keeping up with things like I do now and that's not fair to anyone.
I'm clogging up a slot and preventing others from getting their opportunities to shine. Diamonds deserve to shine. When I look into the mirror, other than seeing this much older man staring back at me, I can see the reflections of all honorable past and present SAS members behind me--supporting me. That's a great feeling.
Now others will have a chance to become part of the decision-making process and it provides an opportunity for all members to grow their roles. The end result will be that this team will grow even stronger.
I look forward to checking in on things from the sideline and seeing that the team is flourishing.
As I frequently say, "Any decision worth making, is worth the time to make it." If each of you live your lives and play your roles here with that in mind, then I know you have the ability to carry the torch forward.
With immediate effect and great pride I promote SAS_Maj_WIZ to SAS_LtCol_WIZ, and assign him the duty of Officer Commanding 22nd SAS Elite Virtual Regiment. I further offer a salute to all SAS members past, present and future, and I stand relieved of duty.
It has been an honor to be of assistance all these years.
Lt. Col (Retired)
22nd [SAS] Elite Virtual Regiment
