Armed Assault demo -- tech specs

The game runs a bit slow, but it looks promising...

I thought Demos were slow ? 'snot like they write it in mache code like Mel Kaye would suggest.

After I get some stuff finished on this comp, I'm going to start DL'ing the demo while I finish home work and hit the hallway.

I'm right with ya Rouge, it felt like the game was running slow, even on my machine. But the overall gameplay was fun. Smile

I have 2 Gig'o'ram, and an overclocked 3.0 Ghz. Perhaps I need more ram then?

Ok, after f00king with DX9.0C I'm ready to try running it _again_

With luck my GF6200 (crap) won't let me down because I do have 2GB of fast DDR2 and a dual cored Pentium D 930 Smile

Nope. You need a better Graphics card.
The Graphics card is alfa-omega... not the computer's RAM and CPU.

I don't particularly care for the demo but it looks like a nice game. Any thing involving trees are CQ I can't deal with at min spec.

Takes a lot of getting use to a 'loose' FPS style, I'm used to focus tightly following the crosshairs not your head. I've yet to learn how to use Grenades yet but I think thats a good thing ^_^

Mine was laggy too...but its kind of expected

And I didnt like the voice overs (commands and stuff) Blum 3 Though with all the options with it, it wasnt THAT bad

Menu was cool too

The game worked surprisingly well on my laptop on Medium settings.
Intel Core Duo 1.83 Ghz x2
1 GB RAM
GeForce 7600 512MB RAM

Here are some screenshots from when I turned the graphic settings to maximum:

So far I only see one problem, the AI is dumb but fights good. I.e. they are good opfor, nmoving and fighting realisticly but not very bright. Like, a squad will prone out in the middle of the street with crouched guys covering the ends when a BRDM is in the area. Or they will walk through a room, through a hallway, through another room and out into cover but will fail to check any corners in the building, only outside of it.

The game looks awesome but it'll take a heck of a lot more work in Dev or Modding before there will be any decent indoor action to mix the conventional battlefields up.

Its also very cool that you get reincarnated as a seagull when you die Smile

PS: If you can't run the game because of an error message:

This application has failed to start because d3dx9_30.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Go here, confirm you have a valid copy of windows and install this and it should fix it.

I'm not sure what you are talking bout Spidey but I guess you mean your Squad AI. And yea Squad AI does act silly from time to time but OpFor AI is far from saying stupid. They use some nice tactics and flanking manouvers, they use walls for cover, and I don't know if it's a coincidence but they also used diversion tactics on me when I wa sniping them---> See a guy sprint you try to snipe him and just as I zoomed out I see a guy disappearing to the left behind trees, then after 2 minutes another guy sprint to the right and when I zoom in to snipe him down the guy from the left moves in for the kill. I say this might be coincidence, but it happened to me bout 7 times already. And we had same scenario when I was playing with Valroe and we were in a building. Tha AI even used buildings to get through the hallways to get on a suitable position to outflank us. When I hide in building for too long I get a frag or RPG in my face. Game runs smooth enough on medium-high settings with me. And I hope the final version will be better with more and bigger accesible buildings, though in the demo you can get some nice face-to-face situations aswell.

The friendly AI is not smart enough to walk around you instead of trying to walk through you. But I'm used to such things from my days of playing R6.

The tango AI are very fine fighters they can use tactics but they are not smart. They know how to fight but not think.

Would you lay down in the probable path of a armed vehicle or move through a room without checking corners where a solider could be hidden ready to shoot you? I doubt it.

I think I have also seen them use grenades as deversions for flanking manovers but I'm not sure yet.

Been away on the holidays as this thread seemed to get some replies. Biggrin To recap on what I said about it running slow earlier, I have a GeForce 7950 512 Vid Card and it turns out I forgot to reset my computer before I played. Keep a computer on for 3 days straight is NOT a good idea. Lol

With a download running before that, 16 gig too! Vanguard: Saga of Heroes beta F.T.L.

This game seems to need a bit of a "tank" of a computer to run "well"

Being a long time player of OFP, this game is pretty similar with definite improvements.

However to get a similar experience OFP is still the much cheaper version and with the new FFUR mod coming it will defintly (not rival) but draw closer to ArmA anyway.

I'm not looking to upgrade my PC anytime in the near near future as I am saving for a motorbike but its defintly going to be one of my future staple games.

Just to finish off i still strongly suggest that spending $10 on OFP is not a waste especially if you have problems with ArmA at this point in time. Make sure you get the GOTY version then PM or msg me on firefox and ill show you how to make OFP much much much better.

Cheers

Eh! Don't forgot the other FFUR junkie! And yes, Jakub and Fox speak the truth. FFUR is 'mazin. If you have a low end computer and can't run ArmA, play FFUR. I am having more fun with it than the ArmA Demo!

Well, i just managed to get a look at the demo and to be honest its exactly how i expected it to be.

From my limited time spent of OFP i would say the games are very similar..indistinguishable to me from OFP except with the improved graphics everything any OFP fan would want and everything most Rainbow Six fans wanted but didn't get.

The one thing i don't like about it is the whole Military feel to it. With RavenShield i feel more like a Special Forces member than just an ordinary grunt, but i have a feeling tactics will be able to be applied to it easily.

So Overall this game gets a thumbs up from me, i will try and play more of the demo and maybe link up with a few of you for some rounds on the demo servers to test this game fully Biggrin

G'day Hexen, just a quick reply to the "special forces" comment.

OFP and ArmA are yes an army sim but they do involve SF work and im sure Fox and NoDebate will be able to back me up here (especially for the missions that we have played) that OFP and im sure ArmA can really make you feel like SF, especially like the real SAS.

We have done ALOT of SF style missions, missions that require extrema teamwork and tactical planning. Missions that unless you really train you will end up in a box.

A few good memories come to mind Fox and NoDebate - column ambush, town defense and of course your mission Fox

In saying all this, OFP and ArmA will never be a pure CQB game however it does not lack th SF touch.

Cheers

One thing that is nice, is with some modifications the OFP modifications could be adopted to ArmA Smile

So far as there is an MP5SD3 on hand I'll be happy enough I think.

ArmA uses a smiler moding umm "engine" or what ever you want to call it as OFP.

One of the things that made OFP so successful was the amazing ability to mod and thats been included in ArmA.

So don't worry mate, in next to no time there will be many many mp5's and SAS style troops, the possibilities are endless with the game.

I must agree with Jakub on this one..even though i have limited hours on the ArmA demo.
Also i did notice that there wasnt much differance between it, and OPF, which is good. Shame they didnt do that with Lockdown eh.

Due to my low-end PC i had to turn all the settings riiggghht down. I think Charles Babbage actually put our pc together u know.
