I try playing every once and a while, it is difficult. On multiplayer, I die quickly. Kind of ironic, because the game is supposed to be an advertisement for the US Army, but with it being difficult, can be actually discouraging for someone to join. I guess the multiplayer is mostly "team adversarial" so just as in RvS, that game mode is tough to play.

It was good at first until it became a lot like counter strike. To me a game can never be realistic adversial although it can be a lot of fun but dont suit me much as I prefer tactical gaming and not a headless chicken shoot em up.

I have played it alot and enjoyed myself quite good. But only the outdoors maps.

I used to be the strategist in a clan, and I love playing with machinegun squads.

The game servers require players to meet qualifcation in Basic Training and have a minimal honor of 10 at least on the offical Army servers. Ever since honor servers was leased out to private runners, the minimal honor I've seen on most is 15 (to prevent newbies from joining). Plus you may need to update Punkbuster yourself since the first few moments in a server is to validate that you're not a cheater.

Also AA in any verison never offered Co Op for the PC. You used to be able to open a map offline and dump in Op-Fors by the handful but there was no AI backing the enities. They'd shoot at you if they saw you but would stand there and never move.

I play it from time to time when other games get boring. I. JUST. WISH. THEY'D. REMOVE. JUMPING. I'd be happy if I could climb over things a la Ghost Recon but the people who think bunny hopping saves their bacon in a fire fight drives me nuts. Too bad it doesn't prevent them from catching an AK round to the chest.

"Professional" gamers of CAL..... pfft. I don't think I'll go into why I hate the concept and how I think it ruins gaming in general.

I started with AAO 1.4 or so, played mostly 1.6 lost interest when I found MW4 / [SAS] RvS. Played on/off for a bit, last try was 2.2 something like that of AAO:SF. I made Sniper + Ranger + Medic easy and stopped around the end of SF Training.

There is no single player, only "Training" best action is shooting range stuff. Online you assume the roll of a Army outfit fighting the OP4. Used to be a bunch of US Army grunts vs mid-east styled france resistance fighters (You are always the army, Op4 always looks funky). In Special Forces mission you have SF trained + high Honor level'd players as SF, and rest as Indig's /w AK's instead of M4 SopMods.

By that time the gameplay got to unrealistic and EVEN MORE BORING for my like, but shortly after words a new "Random" spawn/obj setup came out or something.

Wouldn't mind getting 2.6.0 on PC-BSD, I can run it fine (odds are) with my RedHat Linux compat layer - but my Audigy 4 is only supported via Win32/ALSA drivers; no OSS ones:(:(:(

the training is basically the single player part, but it has a direct efect on the multiplayer part as well. There is no coop mode only PvP. It was at the time an advacned version of CS
