7.62, 338. LM or .50 BMG

You need a sniper rifle, you have the choice between a 7.62x51mm, a .338 Lapua Magnum and a .50 BMG weapon of your choice.

Which caliber would you choose and why?

For me, it's the .338 Lapua Magnum for the reason that it's the best balanced ammo for a sniper rifle. It has an effective range of 1300 meter (1422 yards) and is an effective anti-personal caliber for decent sniper work.

yes the .50cal would be the most effective as even if you got a near miss it would have some kind of impact on the target, but i think more in the term of whats its used for and thats an anti "material" round. so as a sniper rifle i do think the 7.62 is the smallest that should be used otherwise whats the point you're too close then. but to continue what miles said with yes it is a round to be wrecking with and wrecken with hehe, and its not like im bias to say an AI AWP or nothing

I think I'd have to go with the .338 Lapua Magnum, it can handle the long range sniping and it'll probably put a nice dent in some bodies car too. I think a Sniper rifle should have a very long range a nd a lot of stopping power. When you can use a rifle to take down an Elephant, you know it's a keeper.

I don't really think using the .50 Cal on regular troops is very human... At least if you hit them in the head, they probably won't get to feel it. Although, if access to regular 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition would be no problem in the mission area. I would opt for that, simply because if I ran out of ammunition... It would probably be better to use lesser-quality ammo then have to trade the Rifle for the nearest enemy weapon...
