Use a decent firefall (not windows) + a good antivirus. Every now and then run a spybot search n destroy scan. If possible do never use online banking. Nearly any shop offers paypal today. Most important tho be aware where and what you download. Use reliable sites like chip.de (for germany)
Seriously, MS should kill it once and for all, OVER. The worrying part is, if IE can be hacked so easily, what can one say for the OS itself...
That's why I use Windows with special mods just for games and compatibility tests, for everything else there's Mac OS X and BSD Linux. The only Windows worth using is XP.
As for the question - who uses IE anymore? Majority of private users like you and me don't because we think and understand, but the less tech savvy individuals and specially many organizations, companies, etc are locked with the stock IE that was and still is NEVER updated by the user, and that's not the minority of users, but majority, we are talking about millions of people.
The same can be said with everything in general, our world is gridlocked in the pool of flaws
Well its because its a microsoft product, and 99.99% of PC's ship with windows installed...and what use is a PC to 99.99% of users in 2012 if it cant reach twitter or facebook? MS will never ship with chrome and they just too proud to let it ship with a Mozilla or Opera product installed.
For the record, i do use IE.. for the above reason. Websites behave differantly with differant browsers. So i need to make sure that those 99.99% can view the sites that i produce.
Khm,
I am using IE and I never change it to any other browser for my own history and story.

I tryed install others but... IE is reliable (as WIZ meant to said). I like it the best though.
P.s. IE for me since w95 as a explorer and since w98, its internet explorer to me. I am statisfied 100% (101% lol)
For those interested, IE bugfix had been rolled out for all affected Windows systems. If your automatic updates are off scan for updates or install them manually.
Funny how the bugfix installed on my systems even tho I completely wiped out IE..lol
I'm not using Internet Explorer like 3 years ( don't like that browser ), but thanks for info, Duke.

I really recommend Firefox with at least the listed addons.

All this will reduce the risk to a minimum.
