Wolkie (as known in the States) is maybe considered a chick car in the US, it doesn't surprise since cars were once a key image (and perhaps still) for ones personality there, however WV Golf is a really well made family car on the cheap (Specially the GTI version) it's sturdy, it feels comfy and doesn't cost much to maintain, the only downside is that it can translate even tiniest bumps (maybe that's why it's chick car jkn) pop some fancy bumpers, neat painting, and there you have it - a car straight from NFSUG2
You forgot to name the Audi A3 as well. I test drive one yesterday: it is a very smooth and quite powerful car. The bad side on my opinion is that it is not a sport kind of conduct. The steering is very easy to move and you don't feeel the road. If you are looking for a nice confortable car, the A3 is probably for you. But it is not he kind of driving feeling I'm looking for. Also, the commanded change of speed on the semi-automatic is quite slow from my point of view.
I finally got my car! I got a brand new Subaru WRX STI! It runs like hell and I am very satisfied of my choice. I have tried a lot of vehicles as you see in this topic, but the STI was the best for my needs.
Damn man I'm not an expert when it comes about cars but ya got a good lookin shiny one =D.
I can tell ya have made the right choice so congrats and ya know best car is what makes you feel comfortable.
I drive what I can get my hands on lol.
Everyone calls my Cadillac an old man/old lady car.

@ Max: Idk what you friend has as problem, but subarus car do not consume oil. Ofc if he has a 1990 subaru, it might consume oil since it is old.
@Random: All cars that are smaller than a SUV are considered girls cars in US If you would drive a golf R, I'm pretty sure you would change your mind.
@ MAVEN: I'm not really into big trucks and do not know a lot about them.

Nick, if you are looking at the golf, extend your horizons to the other VAG motors. Maybe the Leon Cupra, or the Skoda VRS...all the same chassis
