I have the collection, so do many members.
There was never a dedicated server option..you have to make your own.

I got it also. We played a lot a couple years back with members. We still can set something up.

I have the Gold Edition (GR Desert Siege and Island Thunder), in fact, ive been wondering why isnt it a SAS official game?!
I still play in danish force server sometimes but most of t times its full of rambos, so if u want to play sometime, message me on XFire, maybe we can arranja a full scale war with all the people here in the forum who own GR!!

Its a great game but it was never an official SAS game because it doesnt quite tick all of the boxes

Wow, haven't played that game in forever. However, I do own a server, and if we can get some people interested, I would be willing to set us up with some good ol GR fun.

I do have the game, though I only skimmed around through it. I haven't even touched multiplayer yet. If you guys have a time, I could probably pop by.

Steam sales eat all my reserve money. xD The only reason I have Raven Shield and the Ghost Recon games is due to a huge Tom Clancy deal they had a while back.

Like I said, if I hear back from you guys and it's a go, we can setup a time to all play used to play this during my high school years. Been a while since I touched it though used to have some fun LAN parties

Yeah the classic Ghost Recon, still delivers it seems.

I have it too actually, but only the first one and Desert Siege, unfortunately not Island Thunder, yet.

But I'm up for it if some of the SAS or some other people may want's to try it out.

Probably should have said this earlier, but if you guys are up for it you can contact me on here or my xfire: mcfluffles23 We can have 5 people in a coop game mode. If more than that we do the PvP gamemodes. Give me a date and a time (preferably a weekend) and I'll get us all set up.

Alright sounds like a good date to me.

I will try to have the server up between now and Friday, so here's the lowdown on that: Most likely, we will be using a third party application such as GameRanger or, god forbid, Gamespy (I would never use this one by choice). This reason for this being GR was not packaged with a "true" dedicated server, meaning we need something to simulate a VLAN. Which is what GameRanger or otherwise will do for us. Im trying to work out something else so this won't be the case. But keep in mind this may be what ends up happening.

What I need from you guys:

I would like to know who will make it for sure just so I can have an idea of the amount of people who will join. I also need a person to test the server when it goes up, to make sure that it is connectable (It's a word now :P)

Other than that, I will let you know when it is up, and you may test connectivity at your own discretion at that time.

Sounds good guys, I'm down. I see you on Xfire pretty often Mcfluffles so once it's up just let me know and I can test it.

And Elite I googled it, you have to look for the servers via Xfire, then type the IPs into GR and add it to your server list, the game doesn't autodetect the servers on its own for some reason.

This is for two reasons: 1. The game is 2001, so they didn't make any servers to detect, and didn't include auto detect in the first place. Hence having to manually add servers. 2. The feature that they did end up using to host servers, the UBI.com Game Service, you still have to know the ip to manually add, it just listed them on UBI.com And the UBI.com game service has an update, but good luck getting it to work. Even if you do update it, in all probability, UBI has dropped support for it to move players over to the new servers for their newer games.

Does that make sense, I feel I didnt explain that too well?

Alright good and bad news: Bad news is I couldnt find a way to set it up where we wouldnt have to use a third party app. Good news is the server is up and running so far as I can tell. Waiting for West to test it, but he cant yet seeing as I havent given him the info Instead Ill post it here and you guys can test it at your own discretion. Also, I will write down all the things you need to do. So here goes

Things you will need:
A copy of Ghost Recon
Hamachi

1. Download the unmanaged Hamachi Client
2. Install it (If you need more help here, let me know)
3. Under network, click "Join an existing network..."
4. Use one of the networks included at the bottom. If the one you try to join is full, choose another one.
5. Open up Ghost Recon
6. In the options menu, select the multiplayer tab. On the bottom right, select the Hamachi ip address (5.x.x.x)
7. Be sure to accept the changes and not just back out.
8. At this point close GR and restart your computer
9. When loaded back up, open GR, head to multiplayer, and under LAN, refresh till you see the server. Should only take 1 or 2 tries.

That's the problem. GR was never packaged with a true dedicated server, so the old port forward and connect directly doesn't work. The game service UBI provided, they have dropped support for, and since I only fairly recently reinstalled GR I am unable to patch it or anything. So I can't. Much as I would like to, because that would be the easy way.

I had to take a look at YT videos to remember which game it was, and then the nostalgia struck me...:(

I played this game in LAN with my friends for hours and hours, often after school. It was for period of time one of my favorite games.

Seems like OFP, ArmA, BF, and COD got it's inspiration from this one. Sad thing that they ruined GR franchise.

No problem. I am looking forward to playing with you guys. I will continue to search for a better alternative for us. I am not completely satisfied on having to use Hamachi, even though I like the program very much. If I can find a way to make it as easy as direct IP, I will do so.

And just to let you guys know, if you tried to test the server within the last 6 hours possibly, the server was down, but is up and running again.

Sadly, there's no official place to buy one, I did a local search with zero results, and to order a copy online from, say, ebay or amazon would cross my work policies between private and business. In other words. I won't be able to join.
