What type of music do you prefer ?

Hello my friends, I don't want to pick a fight here, just to make a little discusion. So what type of music do you prefer and why. Please discuss about these genres: metal/rock, pop/hip-hop, rap. Ok, so I will start.
Personally I prefer metal/rock, because, in my opinion, it takes more skill than in other 2 genres of music. Why metal/rock is better? (again my opinion). Criteria:
1. metal/rock bands actually plays their instruments, almost nothing made electronical.
2. Lyrics of metal/rock music 98 % has very good meaning. Most bands are singing about life and people.
3. metal/rock music actually takes a heart, ( mostly specific songs ) it may sound odd but people who are listening to metal/rock will probably understand me.
4. in metal/rock only what truly matters is your talent not money, looks or your rich uncle.
5. guitar solos - Well... thats just epic, as example I can give you Avenged Sevenfold - Afterlife solo, played by Synyster Gates.
6. metal/rock is not popularising drugs and smoking unlike Rap ( no offence guys but thats true )
7. metal/rock is not discriminating people, unlike some of the rap ( yes, I know, again Im touching rap but its true... ) Girls very often are getting named whores, bitches, sluts and so on.
I could find more reasons but Im tired of writing Smile . Like I mentioned before, this is discussion, I will respect any opinions you write here. So feel free to discuss. Smile

I voted metal/rock. I do like also hip hop and pop music but when I start to hear old time rock n roll or metal such as metallica or ACDC, this is just what I prefer. Rap is good for telling a message but not for the acoustics. Some rappers like 50 cents just swear on a beat and I just find it stupid. The only rappers I enjoyed were french and were giving a message of peace in their lyrics.

Definitely the main genre Metal / Rock Exclaim Twisted

The "why" I really can't explain: I just like it, grew up with it, listen to all kind of metal-stuff for about 25 years now. I think it's just true handmade music with a lot of feelings and most of the time good lyrics. It's a fact - the most awsome ballads are made by Metal- / Rockbands Exclaim

No offence, but when I see some Rappers in a movieclip, well, I often think of monkeys - can't help... Blum 3

I think it's generally wrong to say "Metal is better". There are so many different kind of musictypes out there - everyone shall listen what he likes. And as long as I don't need to listen to Rap all is fine. Exclaim Dirol

I remember like it was yesterday - these 3 songs brought me into Metal:

Twisted Sister / "Come out and play" --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSG47_-Ne9o
Iron Maiden / "The number of the beast" --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlSidenJ5-E&feature=related
Helloween / "Ride the sky" --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug_JdOQDxwY

Metal/Rock. Just sounds neat, hand-made without those fancy synthesizers.

I grew up on Country music so I kind of have a built-in hatred for it. I still have to listen and sing Country songs when I'm here at home though x.x

The voting options are far too generalized in my opinion.

There can be so many types of rock/metal that I would not group them together. Just consider hard rock vs. death metal, certainly not the same. One I like and the other I hate. I also disagree with point #7, you just can't definitively say a particular genre is promoting solely one thing or the other. There is alternative hip hop that will not have the suggestive themes you use as examples. On the other hand, I would recommend you to google "black metal", saying flatout rock/metal does not discriminate while completely shutting the door on hip hop/rap is very close minded.

You also can't group pop/hip hop together then put rap in a separate category. If anything, hip hop/rap should go together as those terms are essentially interchangeable these days. Placing a pop artist like Justin Bieber (it doesn't get any worse than her) with a legendary rapper such as Tupac would be a major disgrace to the latter.

As for myself, I can listen to any genres except for most classical and some country, but for the vote I chose pop/hip hop (additional voting options such as Electronic or Alternative would be been nice).

Like I mentioned before, ( if I'm correct than I wrote ''in my opinion'' twice ) you have all rights to disagree with me, because Like I wrote at the beginning, this is discusion, so any opinions and options will be respected.
