The release of RvS 2.0

Please answer these 3 questions

Do you prefer it to 1.6?
What do you like the most about 2.0?
What do you dislike the most about 2.0?

Please answer with only one positive and one negative. You are not being asked to write a personal review  but you should say why you like or dislike that item you have chosen to focus on.

I think this will be sufficient to get the conversation started about the future of RvS and how to allocate our server resources.

I think I prefer it to 1.6...but only barely.

I like the new skins. They add a freshness to the game, perhaps more than any other feature. The colors and textures are much more detailed and richer.

I don't like how the goggles were done. If they were real goggles you wouldn't be able to see the heartbeat thingy would you? The gas doesn't affect your vision when you are wearing goggles. That is all wrong. If your nose is not covered, your eyes will still be blurry. They are connected.
Your vision gets "grayer" like you slipped on some sunglasses or something when you walk through gas, but it has absolutely no effect on your aiming ability.
The goggles nearly obliterate the weapon information. In a computer game, this is essential because you can't feel the switches with your fingers. How else are you going to determine if you have selected single, 3 round or full auto? You can't look down at the weapon, so you need to have that information clearly displayed instead of blocked by the goggle corners. Otherwise you have to remember what your setting is. What if you pressed the key by mistake and didn't realize it? The next time you engage a tango and you think you are on auto and you fire only one shot and get killed.

I'd like to see an option to turn on/off HUD settings like the goggels. Especially the crosshair. Im used to it and I WANT IT BACK! I know its not realistic but hey...I WANT IT BACK!

I like the AI, i like the new images and i like the grenade detonations animations.

I too feel that the 'extra' on screen information is a little too faint, especially the radar which just happens to sit over the rim of the goggles. Maybe they would look at this and reduce its size slightly, who knows?

On the whole i like it, ive not had chance to play in a tactical element yet, so i couldnt comment on how suitable it is for an SAS server.

I don't like the way the HUD is set up under the goggles and i don't mind not having crosshairs.

the Textures ingame are great only the smoke texture doesn't seem to suit the game and the AI is generally wonderful.

I hope that everyone who wanted 2.0 has already downloaded it.

I just pulled this from rvsgaming.com forum about 2.0.

This is from Masaketsu, the project leader:

Happy New Years guys! By the way, it was confirmed that there was a request for the set removal of the software from our site, by someone at Ubisoft. I've not gotten through to the operators but i am still trying to fight this, and like Twi said, if they don't issue a C&D then it's
fair game until then. So i'll see what i can't do to re-upload this, but my site host is being bad.

Thanks again guys for the support, we'll see what we can't do. Also, have a great new year! <3

(end quote)

The download links at rvsgaming.com no longer function Sad

Masaketsu wrote:

-1- Introduction, Cease and Desist!

Ladies (if there are any) and Gentlemen,

It's my deepest fathom of regret to inform you that we were issued an official cease & desist
order this afternoon; i quote 'to the effect of removing any distributive material of the software
and to attempt publication of any further materials' and as such we are unable to maintain a
continued effort in RavenShield 2.0; i will continue to work on this project privately but due to
the aforementioned result i am unable to publish this for enjoyable gameplay in online rooms.

Now, with that being said i will continue to work, and research these aspects but from all of
my legal ramifications of this mod, ie KetsuCorp and the threat of Copyright Infringements a
new scope is set upon the project. My apologies for anyone who spent time upon this game
and the 2.0 Project, our time *was* wasted and sadly we're subject to someone else's say.
For anyone who enjoyed the mod, and those who did not, you've been stripped of the liberty
to play such things, due to corporate and self sustained greed, fear and loathing of creativity.

I can't say it is not our faults, because we chose to create such software, knowing the very
real consequences, BUT i can say that the freedoms of tomorrows mods are threatened by
a variety of reasons, likely to do with money but we've no actual clear statement towards it.

To the RvSGaming community, i will intend to follow instruction and removing the software
in question, anyone who wishes to build from the software can ask me, and it will be solely
my decision on whether or not i allow that individual to create mods from the remaining data.
To those who felt that the mod was great, i appreciate your welcome gratitude, as it is also
our intentions to make more smiles, that being said i merely request you play this privately
and ensure it is not found in online servers. To those who felt it was not upto their very own
expectations; our apologies go to you but naturally this mod was aimed at the hardcore of
MilSim, regardless of how difficult it made gameplay for them. Perhaps HUDs better suit a
regular gamer, or MilSim team, but in our world we find immersion to be our main objective.

So with that being said, we intend to remove the data but leave screenshots as a tribute to
a community project, set ablaze by the desire of users and dowsed by the winds of greed.
Yeah, so i can only appreciate your respects toward my request to abide by these terms.

Goodbye RvSGaming.com!

Think of all the time they wasted. Not to be a Monday-morning quarterback, but wouldn't it have been the thing to do to get Ubi's advise and consent before starting the project? They would have told Masaketsu what kind of tossers they were going to be and save the dev team a shiteload of work.

So, I guess that 2.0 will only be something we play in a locked server. If Ubi can't get in, they don't know what we're running. Smile

I am not prepared to let this die, im thinking non-affiliated petitions on the UBI forums to raise awareness and as of now, I will be using all of my cunning and guise to make this work, untill they send one to me.

Why have UBI made that decision? You don't even have to pay for it (for what I know).
