RvS or ALIENS?

Hanheld Radar Sensor

Ok, lets drop the arguments about using HBS in RvS as being "unrealistic"....not as much fun, maybe, but we are getting there in terms of technology.

It looks like what I have in my toolbox to find the wall studs behind the sheetrock. Smile

It's funny that you bring up this topic since we had this discussion during creation of the new SOPs. We believe that, just like smoke canisters and gas masks, we will turn them on during live-ops and training sessions that we conduct.

We will not, however, activate them for everyday use on the servers because they typically are not used in a tactically correct way.

We will also be adding sections about their use to the SOPs in the future.

Actually I wasn't referring to SAS but the general "cheating" comments that float around RvS......you know, it's in the book and in the game but somehow using them is "cheating" and "nothing like that exists...."
Microwaves, thermal, IR detectors and this.

Technology is great. Having everything in the game available at all times would be nice also, but the average player uses them inappropriately and it ruins the gaming experience.

Using smoke to clear a room is cheating. Rainbow's "eyesight" is better in smoke and gives us an "unfair advantage" and should be avoided.

The game cheats all the time. Tangos see through trees and we can't.

There is nothing we can really do against these cheats except anticipate them and work around them. Much of this falls into the "playing from memory" argument. However, I'm not going to walk down a hall where the plants are all at my eye-level and get killed by a tango. That puts me at a disadvantage. Knowing that tangos can see when I can't has to be factored in and adjustments to game play on our part are necessary. It sucks, but it's necessary.

Am I opposed to a smoke canister in the vault of the bank mission to mask our assault down the first corridor facing the bullet-proof glass? Certainly not. Using smoke at every room to make things too easy is another story.

I would prefer to have gas masks active on the server as well, but again, CS is not a room clearing aid. As soon as gas masks are active and public players are involved, CS becomes better than a flashbang. Not to mention CS and smoke cause lots of lag.

CS gas is a surrender aid to be used to avoid an assault. These tangos are hard-wired to not surrender.

Gas becomes an effective barrier between the team and unexpected encounters with patrolling tangos. We don't need masks to use it that way.

Good discussion topic, Cougar.

Aww here was me hoping for a War of the Worlds reference. (It was this day all those years ago that Orson Welles scared the living crap out of some many Americans LOL!)

Actually the US Army is looking to field something like a heart beat sensor in the near future. When Placed against a wall it actually shows you the layout of the room as well as if a person is hiding by showing a shilouette of that person.

Military life is having a plan. Then a new plan. Then another plan. Then the first plan. Then a brand new plan only to go back to the 2nd plan.

HB sensors are used and have been used for many years at UK ports to weed out illegals

Weasel, click the link in my original post for this thread.
I have read where they expect to soon field police cell phones with IR sensors built into them for checking alleys and dark buildings.

When I was a kid my brothers and I blocked off the basement windows and hunted each other in the dark by sound and air movement and body heat. Later, in night field exercises I could not understand why others could not see/hear the enemy out in the dark woods. Training, training, training. As a kid, the bullies laughed when I walked every day to school to avoid the bus.....till the next time the chased me and could never catch me. Training.
Years later I used these skills to help cops bust the local drug dealers and evade them. Training. Finally, they "caught me"...right where I wanted them. That was their last mistake. After that, nobody wanted to catch me. Training.

Equipment is good; it should be utilized, AFTER you do the basics and can do the job without the gear. Sgt Zin in STARSHIP TROOPERS....using a knife to pin a recruit to the wall to prove a point. I read the book in the early sixties and used the philosophy of knowing your basics and then using anything as a weapon all my life. Know the basics, then use the gadgets to smack them harder.

BTW, HBS and 3 frags (only) in Killhouse (single)from Rainbow Six is a great training device. After a few sessions, add in a pistol with no extra mags. My clan's Recruiting test was taking on the Clan Leader one on one with full weapons in Killhouse and proving to him you understood how to fight and dodge attacks. Nowhere near SAS TT level and teamwork training started after you were in the clan....but it was pretty good for back then.
