70th Anniversary of a legendary film

70 years ago in Atlanta Georgia, on December 15 of the year 1939, premiered a film that made history by telling a tale, a tale of a world long gone, Gone with the Wind.

Unless you've been living under a rock all of your life as far as Television or Cinerama is concerned, you've probably heard of Gone with the Wind. Along with Casablanca, it is perhaps one of the most quoted movies in the history of movies, and is widely regarded as one of the best films ever made, if not the best.

Before tonights showing (which is still running lol), the introducer Robert Osborne, noted that tickets to see the film often ran as high as $1.50... which would be on par with paying over $30 dollars a seat in todays terms. It was that big a thing.

There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South. Here in this pretty world, Gallantry took its last bow. Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and of Slave. Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered, a Civilization gone with the wind...

For those that don't know it, the film looks at a time long since gone, of when the old plantations still stood tall in the south, of when the Civil War broke out in 1861... pitting brother against brother in America. Gone with the Wind is film, that I remember most vividly, for the scenes of the sick, the dying, and the dead: stretching across train tracks further then the eye can see; for the mad dash to cross the tracks before the fires reach the explosives, as Atlanta burns and Georgia is shown laid to its wastes; and for when War, Famine, and Death were not enough to rape and pillage the country side to the invaders glee, the Pestilence of the carpet baggers arriving to loot and plunder the burnt sticks that remained.

Even more then a 160 years since the Yankees changed their tune from "Preserve the union!" to "Free the slaves!", you'll still find some scars left over, from that era gone with the wind.

No movie collection or film lover is complete without watching Gone with the Wind !!! (and yes, I love movies lol)

I'm not 20 for another month and I think its a good movie. Of course I watch new action and sci-fi movies way more frequently, but I appreciate (good) old stuff too.

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
