Real Heroes of...

For anyone interested in heroic efforts done in WW2.

Ever heard of the heavy water in Norway? I grew up in that small village where the heavy water was produced.

I heard the saboteurs tell their story, and it was amasing to sit there and listen. I've walked almost the whole route they took.

I was assisting when BBC made a documentary on it, and here you can watch it:

Trust me, these mountains in wintertime, is no easy task to manage...

I've always thought that's what the heavy water mission in Medal of Honour was derived from - first level you get access to the BAR.

Here in Germany we get bombarded with "new" documentations about the Third Reich way too often and the history lessons in school are about almost nothing else. If I hadn't an interest in the world and all myself, I would have no knowledge of the time between Renaissance and Holocaust.

To avoid any missunderstanding: I do not deny that it is important to know about what happened between '33 and '45. My point is that I don't need to hear it all over and over again at the expense of other parts of our history.

It is another example of our one-sided system that I've never heard of Telemark in years of being taught about WWII. Thanks for the videos, Medic.

Explaining a lack of knowledge in WW2 events by too many lessons in school about WW2 events is an interesting approach lol. Have you ever thought of a carreer as politician....? Wink

The first problem is, how do you define terrorism? And if you find a proper definition, there are opposite sites, each of them claiming they fight for good reasons. What is a resistance/freedom fighter for one side would be a terrorist for the other side.

Well well. My intention by posting this was to show what these guys did. Its a BIG achivement that they did, and I bet todays soildiers would have a problem doing it over again with the same equip.

Wether it was WW2 or not doesnt matter.

They were young men, didnt have much army training. But hey, what a job.

As for ripping up in history, WW2 is history, its the past. So to the germans, I didnt post it to mock you.

So take a look at the documentary, look at what they did. I know these mountains good, and trust me, during winter its hard to survive there.

Escrt, I only meant we had the same lesson over and over: How Hitler managed to build his Reich and why so many people went along with it and didn't offer resistance. Hitler here, Hitler there. We never talked about the war on the other side of the globe (except for watching "Tora!Tora!Tora!" about the events leading up to Pearl Harbor and the entry of the USA into the war) or about other governments during that time, for example how Hitler was welcomed and appeased by the western powers before the attacks on the Czech Republic and Poland began. If they don't teach things like that in school, imagine what other knowledge is held back. I don't want to begin here to unfold my own conspiracy theories, so I limit myself to critizising the german educational system.

Thanks again for the videos Medic and sorry for using your thread to blow off steam.
