When you get those 'pre-approved' letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope!!!
Most of them come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 41 cents postage, 'IF' and when they receive them back.
It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not load up those envelopes with all of your other junk mail and drop them in the mail?????
I bet they take you off their mailing list ASAP.

I worked at a bank for 4 years, and my last year there I managed a dept called 'Direct Response' where they sent out 'possibly pre-approved' loan apps to ppl and they just have to complete it and then send it back via mail in the envelope provided. We got back many things in the mail, some too disgusting to mention on here, but mostly funny stuff where we were enormously amused by the lengths ppl would go to due to their anger at getting these annoying letters in the mail.
One of the best we received (and which probly cost a lot due to the weight) was a brick attached to the envelope. This had us giggling for days.
Unfortunately I can tell you that sending back something in the mail, no matter HOW heavy, funny or disgusting it is, will not get your name removed from the mailing list. You will only achieve this by phoning or writing them and asking for this specifically. Reason being that your name and details will probably get sold off by that institution to another one looking for leads to send crap to in the hopes that you'll respond favourably.
If you decide to send things back in this envelope provided, make it interesting and amusing so that the poor sods receiving it can at least have a good laugh

The envelope on a brick method was popular in the US decades ago but my info was the P.O. stopped delivering them here. However, if u write your response on "tin" can lids and include those it will fit nicely and weigh a lot. Since it is enclosed it will go....for a stiff postage. Since you wrote:
(NO) (THANK) (YOU) (etc) on the individual lids it is a legitimate response (I was out of paper). However, to get off mailing lists sign up for the national level https://www.directmail.com/directory/mail_preference/. It won't stop politicians from mailing you (they exempted themselves) or charities, but it stops a lot of crap. I get almost no mail these days. Remember, companies you do "business" with can be exempt from mail and phone list restrictions.
https://www.donotcall.gov/ is for phone marketing, but again has exemptions like local businesses, politicians, etc. Still it helps and it gives legal redress to you and fairly large cash payments to you if violated.
