Pictures of the new rifle!

Germans certainly know how to produce quality weapons.

I am now the proud "owner" of what many believe to be the worlds best assault rifle.

Why "owner"?

Is it some sort of replica?

Very nice anyway.

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

It means that it technically belongs to the norwegian military, but I get to bring it home with me.

Ah yes the norwegian government trying to be politically correct on everything they do. Not only does the environmental ammo frack your lungs up on the indoor ranges, it also has less accuracy than normal 5.56 ammo-.-

HK 416 N and a Aimpoint M4, very good choice Valroe Biggrin Dirol

Try to get the 3XMAG so you are well fitted for longer range targets and the
CEU for high risk CQB areas Exclaim

It's hard that i only can buy that weapon as a semiautomatic here Diablo

A friend of mine, who is Kersantti (Sergeant), specialized in urban combat, said that semi automatic weapons are more dangerous than fully automatic, because they're easier to control. And since the US have a standard rifle that is limited to single and burst fire, it can't be much of a loss, can it?

This is a very hard sentence for me to understand.

"semi automatic weapons are more dangerous than fully automatic, because they're easier to control"

.
He probably meant that Semi-Auto shooting usually is more effective than full-auto shooting.

Basically if I just manipulated the trigger mechanism in my HK416 I could have it fire 7 round bursts for that matter. It`s just that civilians in most countries are not allowed to own weapons able to fire full auto, in case they go crazy and start killing people at the local shopping mall..

Of course semi-automaitc is more effectiv and easier to control in the hand of an experienced shooter.

In germany a fullauto weapon is usually not allowed for civilians.

Valroe be carefull on modifying the trigger control. It destroys your warranty and can cause malfunction Wink

U.S. law is similar, civilianised versions of military weapons are usually modified to make them semi-automatic and ditch certain features for legal issues. Really, I doubt it's practical to own anything more fun then a bolt action rifle these days in America.

And any weapon should be effectively lethal in the hands of a good soldier :-P.

Well color me extremely jealous. We in the US are awaiting the release of the HK MR556 and the MR762, their US civvy and semi-auto versions of the 416 and 417.

The M16/M4 is a hell of a weapons platform, mainly because of all of the aftermarket optics options out there for them. I just don't like the non-gas piston variants of them. Too hard to clean!

Valroe,

it is better to replace the standard Aimpoint mount with this one:

http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=160

higher reliability Exclaim

I prefer this config:

with the support of this two parts:

The mount we currently use is combat proven.
Marksmen also carry a version of the Aimpoint 3x scope.

If you can avoid Larue Tactical, I'd do it. The owner is an asshat. Good product, yes, but a childish owner.

If you can find an alternative from B&T or GG&G or ARMS, do it.

Just my opinion. And not saying you need to switch.

GG&G is accepted as upper tier in the HK world. For a little while I had one of their adapters for the USP rail and it was very solid, it held zero for a laser that was removed and replaced for as long as I owned it.

I don't even know if they make mounts for the specific application, but I would exhaust all options before giving Larue a dime.

Again, just my opinion.

Why not 416? Because it is more expensive?

The U.S. Army recently ran more tests on its M-4 rifle, involving dust and reliability. These tests were supposed to take place in August. They didn't, and after several delays they were finally performed. Four weapons were tested. The M4, the XM8, SCAR (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle) and the H&K 416 (an M4 with the more dust proof components of the XM8 installed).

The testing consisted of exposing the weapons to 25 hours of heavy dust conditions over two months. During that testing period, 6,000 rounds were fired from each of ten weapons of each type. The weapons with the fewest failures (usually jams) were rated highest. Thus the XM8 finished first, SCAR second, 416 third and M4 last. In response, the army said it was satisfied with the M4s performance, but was considering equipping it with a heavier barrel (to lessen jams from overheating) and more effective magazines (27 percent of the M4s 882 jams were magazine related.) The army noted that the M4 fired over 98 percent of its rounds without problems. The army had been forced by Congress to conduct the tests. Congress was responding to complaints by the troops. The XM8 had 127 jams, the SCAR 226 and the 416 had 233. Any stoppage is potentially fatal for the soldier holding the rifle. Thus the disagreement between the army brass, and the troops who use the weapons in combat.

In dusty places like Iraq and Afghanistan, you have to clean your M16 and M4 rifles constantly, otherwise the combination of carbon and dust in the chamber will cause jams. The army and marines both decided to stick with their current weapons, rather than adopt an easier to maintain weapon, like the XM8 or H&K 416, because of the billion or so dollars it would cost to switch rifles.
