Wireless network issue

I'm hoping som of the smart brains in here can help me out.

I have a wireless network, N standard, a Dlink crap router. The router is placed on the top floor (2nd level)

Everything works well. But the last weeks I have had problems.

In the livingroom (1st level) I have a old Acer Travelmate 8000. When connected I have 100% signal, but the speed drops to 24 or 1 mbs.

When i reconnect its 54mbps, but soon drops.

I have reinstalled the driver for the card, and reset the router.

Have done a virus scan.

Nothing helps.

Havent tried the laptop I use at work yet tho...

Any ideas?

out of curiosity, how does she behave if you sit upstairs, just a couple metres away from the wireless router?

(You wouldn't happen to have any interfering signals in your living room by any chance? Hehe, I still remember an AP giving a cordless phone on the 2.4 GHz band a hard time xD)
