I generally hate phones with a passion, but I think the G1 would be as close to my 'dream' phone as I can get, short of moving to Japan or getting jiggy with building my own PDA or something lol.

I only have my cellphone as a mobile-adressbook and a clock. And well yeah sometimes I do take a picture. But that's basicly it lol

If you want a crazy phone then look at the Blackberry Storm.
Vodaphone in the UK carries it, I got one from Verizon(USA) and its so AMAZING.
To be honest, as long as I could hear / be heard on it, I really could care less about the phone part lol.
It's the idea of a handy dandy pico-computer, that has a QWERTY keyboard, from which I could write code on the go. From it's apparent capabilities, if my mother added internet access to the families plan, I might even be able to work on [SAS] servers from a phone like the G1; possibly reach my own home server via SSH with a little tweaking lol. Like tonight, got done with my AoR at work a half hour early, but couldn't leave until others were done. If I had a tool like the G1, I could have gotten stuff done instead of pacing back and forth like a caged tiger!

I love gadgets.....
But for the cell phone, its my life, adressbook, calendar, e-mails etc. I just got a new, HTC S740. Looks are not good on it, but the phone works very well. It also have a QWERTY keyboard.
But it will never replace the laptop, Lenovo SL400, also with mobile broadband (HDSPA), but only gives me a 7,2mbps connection. I havent tested rvs on that yet.
What is it about Americans and keyboards lol..I have a Sony W550i..the reason..it makes good calls and serves as a decent MP3 player. Did i mention i can admin the servers from it?.. its just a phone..Its how you use it that counts.
There is a lot of talk about Blackberries right now, but personally i cant see the buzz..i can read my email..in fact it bleeps everytime you guys send one to any of the official SAS addresses
While i was over in the States a lot of people commented on the fact that it didnt have a keyboard..what? its a phone.

Im pretty much of the same opinion as WIZ. If you know how to do/tweak it, it doesnt really matter wether you have a qwerty keyboard or not. by the way, who of you guys would be abled to place ten fingers on that keyboard? only with ten fingers a qwerty keyboard makes sense, doesnt it?
The famous MyPhone(was that its name?) actually uses a qwerty keyboard too, only that you dont have to flip it open plus them guys from Pear (uh... what was the name of the rouner thing???) can zoom in and out without additional buttons....
Spidey, although its Pear (or whatever the real name is) i'd recommend that one as it is very handy. some buddies of mine use it and they are more than satisfied with both connectivity and usage.

I spent enough years as "human relay" passing phone messages back and forth between my mother & brother for years when they weren't talking, these I generally don't call people often, I IM or go visit in person instead
Anyone I would actually like to call, I wouldn't have enough privacy to do it at work for (if you get my point <_<).
I looked at some of the Blackberry models awhile back, but the ones available here were much to limited for my tastes; the tumbpads were fine though. A touch screen like the iPhone has would be ok (especially if like OSX, iPhone OS has a vi hidden away), or even a stylius based system; like some of the Nokia Nx00 PDAs have would work great. But for typing source code away from a proper computer, it would suck to live with a standard ~12 key equiped cell phone -- especially when trying to make any of: { } [ ] ( ) ; ! = + < > - * / & % ' " ` etc needed in most languages. The G1 is nice, has a symbol key and the puncutation symbols were moved onto their next nearest keys
What works for dialing numbers and address book entries, sucks for other things ^_^.
HTC G1 seems like a nice and handy phone/PDA/mini-computer.

I think I'm gonna stick with my Nokia N82. It has basically all I need. A decent camera, WLAN, GPS + Nokia Maps, a nice music player, 3,5mm jack output, and misc other apps and stuff. And I can make phone calls with it, and even send SMS.

I doubt the Android platform supports anything but it's own Java based stuff (same basic syntax, different API).
But technically, if one could get or code a SSH client for it, I could actually remote login to my home machine, write the code their, test & compile, lol.
