Ultimate Force is a series of books written by Chris Ryan who was a member of the SAS during the Gulf. He was a member of the Bravo Two Zero patrol.

Ultimate Force is a classic mickey mouse high octane TV series. Starring Ross Kemp (wannabee Squaddie) lol. Plus it has a woman in the regiment who does frontline fighting. For me reality has surely gone out the window.

Reality on TV? Isn't that a small niche with it's own network?

(Not trying to be a jerk, just out to make a (sad but oft' true) point)

its not realistic because theres a women fighting in the frontline regiment

Well the meaning you seek is that women in the British Army today, can not part take in frontline fighting in any unit.
This is because of the simple fact that women do not have the physical strength to carry 110lb bergens, tab, and fight. Its been tried and tested and proved that women do not have what it takes to be in frontline warfare.

So to answer your question it isnt realistic. But it makes great TV.

Sorry if there are any women out there who want a career in the armed forces, but that is the reality of the armed services.

In addition to this I think its also against some international law, maybe one of the Geneva conventions, but it states somethin along the lines of woman and children are not to be made to engage in hand to hand combat. Could be chattin out of my butt but I think there's somethin along those lines

When I said it was being over dramatised, I was talking about the fact that tangos were firing off like 4 mags, and not hitting a single target.
Plus Blowing up a roof, that on top has a nuclear bomb!
Lol

That roof that you are talking about, (if im thinking of the right one), had ontop of it a fake 'dirty bomb' and palstesene.
Those russians were tricked into being there with it, as they thought it was real, but when the sniper saw the code was different to the canister stolen, they knew it was fake and blew a ring round it to drop them down and shoot them.

Maybe i do watch a little too much TV ;), but just so you know it wasnt a nuclear bomb on the roof. (and even if it was, it apparently couldnt create a nuclear explosion)

Although, come to think of it, i dont think they usually blow rings around roofs in RL to make the tangos drop down to them Blum 3

Ghost Recon also makes this bleep among it's specialists (at least in the PS2 edition). But I don't consider it a 'big' issue, GR at least did take place in the near 'future'.

Despite army practice, I do consider women fully able to take part in combat though.

Heh, this reminds me of one time at Church, our youth group we had a talent show of sorts one day. For my bit I did a bit of a kata, only thing I could think of in 5 min that wouldn't embarrass myself in the doing part lol.

During the contest, a member of one of the girls D-Groups came on stage and hit the deck with a few of our *top* guys. Surpassing the requirements for men in the army, she out performed everyone with ease and kept going. When the youth minister asked if she was considering the army:

"No, the MARINES!"

That was one girl you didn't mess with Wink

Ahh I remember my days as a medic in the air force. Ther was a female fighter pilot, kinda cute also.

Once a year the pilots had to pass a medical test... That was one of my jobs, and it included taking a ECG

Of course they can carry the stuff sniper alot of Female Military Soldiers are combat medics and they are still required to carry a decent weight in luggage Also Female Searchers still carry decent weight in luggage because they still need to be armed and prepared due to threats while there searching the Females of a Village in a Combat Situation (Got this of the http://www.armyjobs.mod.uk lmao) Anything could happen during the search

So Sniper some women may not be able to take part in frontline warfare but it doesnt mean that it cant be proved wrong Smile

I hear my name called!

UF..lets establish the facts...

High You are quoting the final episode of series 4, in fact the last ever episode...personally 2nd favourite of mine...and the actual tangos were Americans, the decoy terros were Chechnian.

Sniper is correct. Any female can quite rightly try and join the SAS, however it is very rare to find a female that can actually endure the situation..a physical design of the female body, sad but true.

Tv...is what it is...unreal!
However i much prefer to watch an episode of Ultimate force rather than an episode of anything else classed in the same genre.

My favourite episode does happen to be the first ever though.

Yes i do like it...for what it is, a tv program.

WOW i didnt realise i made people so passionate about womens rights lol

The closest a female soldier has got to warfare in my experience is as a search officer when taking POWs from the frontline to the base for interviewing.

There has only been 1 women who passed Royal Marine Commando Training. But the Royal Marines never allowed her to part take in frontline fighting. So yes a minority could have what it takes but they dont have is the phyiscal strength to carry it out.

Exactly MBJ Thats why its a TV show and the tactics are unrealistic, because they cant actually show current tactics

Most of the things I've ever seen on TV are only small bits and pieces that you can figure out playing paintball or airsoft, or concentrate on tid-bits of information. It's also been a favored past time for me at times, to note what 'hollywood' screws up from time to time in the movies.

I have only ever seen one thing on TV that has impressed me from a tactical point of view - Go for Broke!

The first and only war movie I've seen with a decent sense of basic infantry tactics.
