Ya know Sniper, I do agree with you about the "World" part... Why can't we have a world series similar to the little league.. Teams from all over the world come together to play out and the best team in the world is crowned champion... Yep I'd sure like to see that!!!!
The title of this championship may seem odd to some readers from countries where baseball is not a major sport (or even where it is), because the "World" Series is confined to the champions of two baseball leagues that currently operate only in the United States and Canada.
The explanation is that when the term "World's Championship Series" was first used in the 1880s, baseball at a highly-skilled level was almost exclusively confined to North America, especially the United States. Thus it was understood that the winner of the major league championship was the best baseball team in the world. The title of this event was soon shortened to "World's Series" and later to "World Series". "The Series", by itself, capitalized, is understood to mean "The World Series", in the appropriate context.
The United States, Canada and Mexico (Liga Mexicana de Beisbol, established 1925) continued to be the only professional baseball countries until some decades into the 20th century.
Nick --> You have the Toranto Blue Jays who are way better than the Expo's EVER thought of being, so that doesn't really make sense to me...pls explain why Canadian's would rather watch a team that could barely win 40 games a year, compared to a team that is at least battleing in trying to make the playoffs....
If I can remember there is only 1 team atm in canada and it is the blue jays. Montreal expos, i think, were more popular and thats's why canadians don;t watch a lot of professional baseball
Anyway I dont even know anything about American footy
Obviously this post is WAY Off Topic...Baseball, not Football.
The reason I posted this is that for ANY Team to Win the National Baseball League Series is an accomplishment.
In 7 Months, 30 Teams play 162 Games to determine which Teams will battle it out for the Title. That simply means they play sometimes everyday of the week. Most people dont even WORK everyday of the week. The Teams are made up of Players from All Over the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Brazil (didnt see that on your map?). And YES, This Year it was the Phillies. I happen to live here and feel somewhat compelled to route for the Home Team. Its an achievment and was not posted here so the General Public ,and those that have No Idea what Baseball even is, could use this Post as a vehicle to Slam the US.

The D-Rays had an Awesome run at it this year, good attempt....
We Europeans dont pay attention to the "World" Series.
That is one other thing. Why is called the World Series when on American teams play in for it?
