Medic's pictures

Well I just love to take pictures. Spesially of the lovely Norwegian nature.

The sun can create some amazing colours, so thats what most of my pictures are about.

I've just entered the digital world. So I havent got the best camera. I have a Canon 400D. For now with a 18-55mm lence. But I'm saving money for better lences. An in the future for a better camera.

Earlyer I took my pics with a Canon T70, great analog camera, but very difficult to use.

Some pics of the sun:

Nice pictures... I really like the 2nd one.

I was thinking along the same lines as Spidey - but is there a way we could get the original picture/sizes? (so I can scale them to my screen sizes)

These photos have potential to be even better with some editing.
Adjusting the horizon so it will be 100% straight is a must for photos like these. Our eyes easily detects if a horizon is leaning left or right.
Second is the composition. The horizon line goes right in the middle of the photos. It would be more aesthetic if it was 1/3 from the top or the bottom.

"Rule of Thirds" is a basic composition rule which is good to know, but it can of course be broken:

Yeah Leon I know. I took the pictures in a boat, and I had no foot to put the camera on. I took a lot of pic's but 90% was trash LOL.

I'll see what Adobe can help me with, hehe

Btw, thanks for the tips Leon Biggrin

Photoshop is the digital darkroom Smile
A digital photo from the camera's memory card is an unfinished product, which needs some kind of aftertouch, just like the negative from an analog camera. Digital photos are low on contrast, so adjusting the contrast are the most comon thing, I would say.

Before/after example

This is the photo straight from the camera's memory card:

This is the photo after a tour in Photoshop:

Leon, the second picture obiouvsly has more impressive colors, which is what you'd want of a photograph.

But which picture do you feel is closer to reality? a.k.a. my question would be: Do you need to retouch the picture to make it closer to real life, or better looking?

But which picture do you feel is closer to reality? a.k.a. my question would be: Do you need to retouch the picture to make it closer to real life, or better looking?

I wanted to make the molo picture better looking by increasing the contrast and colors. Rotating and cropping too. Something in between those two pictures above would be realistic to real life i guess. Nature photos like that tends to be boring without the little extra.
In general it completely depends what type of photo you're taking, and what you want.

For instance:
- Documentary photography: To document real life. Like press photos, street photos. Locations. Bird photos for bird dictionaries etc.

- Associative(?) photos. Photos which communicates with its content and composition. Makes the viewer think and associate. The content is more important than the image quality.

- Beautiful photos. Photo of something beautiful.

- Snapshots. Typically taken with a consumer compact camera on Auto-mode. Family album.
