You need an assault rifle, you have the choice between a 7.62x51mm or 5.56x45mm weapon of your choice.
Which caliber would you choose and why?
For me, it's 5.56x45mm for one simple reason, more ammunition per magazine and more ammo for the same weight. The G36K/G36C and XM8 being prime examples of my kind of AR
Although I've always been interested to see what a intermediate caliber like a modern assault rifle could do with a 6.4x48mm or some thing.
I prefer the 7.62, since the 5.56 can be a little bit weak. A US Marine friend of mine said this:
War. War never changes...
i also prefer the 5,56 mm for some reasons. you can use them in nearly every weapon and they make also nealry the same damage as the 7,62mm nato bullets
5.56 Nato for all ARs ... more magazin capacity ... more accuracy on auto fire ... and most important ... my beloved Sig SG 552 features only 5.56 Nato
7.62 Nato would be better for some SRs ... although I'd prefer the .338 Lapua Magnum...

5.56 by far love the way it looks on paper adn the way it fires i all modes. im sorry to say but them marines are really bad shots. the extra 10 rounds makes a real difference along with the style of pretty much all the weapons ive seen used out there in a realistic fashion. 7.62 is a rifle that is not suited in all forms of combat where as the 5.56 is a more versatile round.

I've only fired 7.62mm, but I think I would prefer the 5.56mm.
7.62mm all the way baby. Im no big fan of this humanitarian mumbo jumbo, You are shooting the guy so why would you care what damage the round does.
It is heavier, sure but who ever heard a soldier moaning' my bullets are too heavy'
At least you can garuantee that when a 7.62 round hits you, they wont have to spend hours poking around your internal organs to try and find the offending piece of lead.

Hmm, 7.62 mm for me. More damage by using less ammunition, in teori. Only fired 7.62mm I the force and the "civilian" edition on hunting.

Well each size round has its uses, but I myself having used both the modern american M4 and the vintage american M14, I would have to say the 7.62. More stopping power and greater range.

The choice of round that you choose in a combat situation is sometimes if not more important than choosing which weapon to fire it from.
For me the Standard NATO 5.56 is the best choice as this is a good balance of power and precision when flying through the air. In addition, why would you need a 7.62 anyway they are just too powerful a round for use in combat. For Sniping the 7.62 is a nice choice.
