The problem is the cost of upgrading and replacing crap thats all ready in place.

My DSL is fast enough for me, lucky to have faster then 34.6kbps Dial Up. Although I woulnd't mind a 30+ mbps Fibre optical line xD

Nope, there's only so much funny pages you can see in a day...

Wouldn't it be funny to download the complete source code for the Free, Net, Open, and DragonFly BSD projects all at once, with a 40gbit/sec connection.

I'd probably be shouting at their 'normal' CVS servers being so dang slow!!!

FreeBSD's source tree alone is like ~400MB but it's basically the entire operating system sources.

yes, but i wouldn't be surprised if she is taken hostage and forced into using her connection for evil....Like taking over the interwebs!

Hopefully we can retake that record from Japan now. They snitched the Swedish - US record Diablo

Yeah, that's 40X faster than mine. I have 100Mbps when I'm wired to my router, 54 wireless. (Maximum)

If you mean megabytes per second that's the speed that data travels between router/pc using 1/100/1000MBPS Ethernet or mordern Wifi.

Most American broadbanned connections are in the >= 1 && < 10 Megabyte per second range. I'd say the avg is probably 1-3Mbps.

I don't know, but when i hover my mouse over my internet icon, it says 100Mbps.

Thats your LAN connection speed, but you could of course be connected to 100 Mbps but most likley your LAN speed.

Still at 100 Mbps it would be close to 400x faster Wink

Here's a video by the way, unfortently it's in Swedish

That is one sweet connection.

The trouble is, not with ISPs offering the connection, nor customers paying for the equipment. But the real problem is the people in between you and your ISP.
For Example, most people in the UK connect via ADSL...down the phone lines. It requires BT (the owners of the phone lines) to upgrade all of their equipment and cabling. And that will eat their profits, so they wont do it.

I can receive 8 meg, but i rarely get over 3 meg

Being able to upload my backups at ~800KB/Sec over the Local Area Network is good enough for me.

Terry@Dixie$ ifconfig ath0 8:04 ath0: flags=8843<UP> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::214:6cff:fe3e:4f01%ath0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 inet 192.168.1.103 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255 ether <edited> media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (DS/11Mbps) status: associated ssid BSDNet channel 1 bssid <edited> authmode WPA privacy ON deftxkey UNDEF TKIP 2:128-bit TKIP 3:128-bit txpowmax 38 protmode CTS burst roaming MANUAL bintval 100 Terry@Dixie$ 8:04

With a 3mb adsl line I usually download over the Internet at 140-180KB/Sec, so I'm happy with the speed of LAN/WLANs until DSL goes the way of Dialup lol

That site said my DL speed was 635.04kbps and Upload: 189.60kbps.
This was at 0100, so i was probably the only person in my neighborhood using the internet.

The human race sends people into space. Perhaps sending people through internet is the next thing? Who wouldn't have wanted Swedish Sigfrid out of their disc drives...

Uh oh...
