Ventrilo is better.

Please consider using ventrilo as a communications device.

I find that ventrilo is much better then teamspeak. For one thing and it is the most important. You can right click on a persons name and go to add volume. You can turn up or down the volume on one single person. So if one person is really quiet and another person is loud. You can just turn up that one person.

Please try the ventrilo out and see how you like it. http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

Please download from the client area the Windows i386 - 32bit.

It's true.

But our TS comes with the servers.

I'd love that feature, turn Miles and Snipe up, turnmy moms volume down xD

Only thing I don't like about Ventrillo is I always have to screw with it to hear every one ok, or be heard my self.

Team Speak, usually balences out. And Channel Commander rocks for complex missions.

If any SAS members would like Cobra vent info I would be more than happy to give it to you. Please page me on x-fire or get it from a member that already has it.

Ventrilo is actually in the downloads section on this site. Back in the old school days we used to use it, but as a clan, for our needs we prefer TS.

I have access to a few Friends Vent servers and it works well, but i also personally prefer TS

Well, good things said. I can see that TS is usefull, but I think I like vent a bit better than TS...

Didn't we used to use RogerWilco at one point in time? (e.g. some time in SWAT3).

I personal experienced that also the quality of Ventrilo is much better than TS. You hear people much clearer and closer to thier real life voice than in TS. But TS is much clearer and more simple when it comes to appearance. I don't favour neither though....

I don't care what we use. I can hear everyone just fine. Yes, we used to use Roger Wilco. I didn't havea problem with that either, we just got free TS with the servers so we switched over for the better features.

I like channel commander feature.
You can change your codecs to get better sound.

Thanks for the use of your Ventrilo, Baroness. You're voice is more sultry on TS Biggrin

Well I will always hate Ts. I find it gives me nothing but trouble. Always got someone no matter how high you turn your output or input you can not hear them. Then you have a person that is pretty well yelling in my ear. I get migraines enough without ts. We have both ts and Vent available and I can tell you the clan likes vent better. No one in my clan will touch the darn thing. You are all very welcome to come on my vent at any time. You SAS group are all very nice to me. Thanks for making me feel at home with yous.

Tried Vent once, found it lagged more than TS, been using TS for a number of years now without any problems.

As for being able to turn the volume up on some people and down on other people, my team found how to do this on TS, example -

"OI, TURN YOUR FECKING MIC DOWN, JESUS CHRIST"

or

"FOR FECKS SAKE, TURN YOUR MIC UP, CANT HEAR YOU WITH ALL THESE BLOODY EXPLOSIONS"

simple, effective, funny Wink

Yeah I have a problem with TS too, I hear about 30 - 50 % heh But I can understand as it comes with the server for free. My Squad used to use Teamspeak but went over to Ventrilo and been using it for a long time, I do prefere it as I can hear everyone to 100% Lol

But I go with whatever there is Smile

One thing I do like about TS is the Linux port. I can install it on my PC-BSD Laptop using the Linux ABI and not have to be at my game box to attend meetings. I'm looking forward to TeamSpeak 3 and even greater portability, who knows some day I might get a Mac hehe. Ventrillo has a Win32 and OSX port but no Linux, BSD, or Solaris one. And Wine is a little to Linux-centric to be as good on BSD from what I've heard. (I've never liked using wine period.)

The TeamSpeak team is currently in the development period of TeamSpeak 3. At this point, the TeamSpeak Team has issued a statement that TeamSpeak 3 will be programmed with C++. With the new version of TeamSpeak being in C++ the TeamSpeak team plans to release an official Mac client in addition to the Windows and Linux clients. Among other things Teamspeak 3 will also have tabbed server participation allowing the user to enter multiple servers at the same time. Additionally the instant messaging service is being redesigned to function similarly to IRC and many popular Instant Messengers. With the new version of TeamSpeak the server is also being redesigned.

It does say that there is a linux port in development. But if i remember it right that message has been there for quite a while.

Dragon did you go to your controlpanel -> sound and soundunits -> Soundunits tab, then under recoring of sound, theres a volume button. Press it and make sure that Mic is checked to be used.

Question is, which one has that fastest audio transfer with reasonable quality?

Vent sometimes lags 2-3 seconds, while TS maintains a steady 1 second.

Ok asking someone to turn up their volume is ok, but what happens when it is all the way up? This has happened many times on Ts. What then?

If the person is still really really quiet after turning the volume right up, this means 1 of 2 solutions...

1/ make sure you are in the same house as your Mic
2/ Turn Mic boost on in your windows microphone settings

After rectifying both of those, most people find they need to turn their mic volume right down
