Fox Should Know This One

On June 6th, 1944, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in an attempt to open the western front. As represented in many games, the Omaha beach was a high casualty battle. But there was a battle only a few miles north of Omaha beach that would test the vigor of the Rangers. This is where you come in. Name that place. First one to answer gets to see me play RvS (It's a rare case these days  )

Hint: Look at my avatar, no pictures availabe, it would make it too easy if you can just look at the URL. Answer in a short while.

BTW, sorry to cut you short Eagle, unfortunately I only have 6 hours in my day.

I cannot fathom that the Lord has blessed us with logic and rationality and have us forgo their use.

Pointe du Hoc ?

The only thing I could think of is when the rangers had to scall a clif and fight inland a ways to get the guns.

I agree with Spidey. If it is, I've been there.

I think it was pointe-du-hoc too. Rangers had to scale the cliffs take out the guns that could disrupt landing on the beaches and hold the position. They stood grouns for 2.5 day and got relieved by 29th infantry division when they finally broke through. I know that the rangers started with 225 men and after those 2 days only 90 were capable to fight.

P.S.: If you play COD2 you can play that battle at pointe-du-hoc, it's one of the best missions in cod2 if not The BEST.

well, i guess it's not hard anymore with google is it? well, anyway, your both right, fox takes the prize for his extra information. Sorry Spidey, this is a competition of how much you can read I-m so happy

Next question

It's already well known that airborne units were dropped June 5th, and assisted in cutting off the flank on the beaches. So, directly after the D-Day invasion, what was the first destination of the 101st Airborne? Hint:None, anything relative gives it away straight forward. I've gotta lot of trivia here, so answer quick Wink

Wasn't it the town of Bastogne?

I think that's right, but I am likely wrong.

I've got a little piece of trivia for you Langley. How did the Rangers get their motto "Rangers Lead the Way"? Hint: It came from the landing at Point du Hoc.

Being as you're a man of honor, I trust you won't use google, nor any of you other gents... :glasses:

I say Carentan

(sigh) well, my memory is a bit sketch, but wasn't it when they were landing with some regular army and a lieutenant walks up to a ranger who is standing or sitting, or whatever, asks him what outfit hes with. "Rangers" he says back.

"Well goddammit" (pardon me) "Lead the way!"
But, under a different note, Rangers Lead the way wasn't there original motto. I still don't think it is, I may be wrong. But that sounds better.

You are correct sir.

For people who are saying Carentan for the answer, you are only partially correct, Carentan was a necessary passage to get where they were going.

Not market garden I think. Market garden was a different operation and for that the 101st first went back to engeland to prepare for it.

Another...

Market Garden is too far after I think. Could it be Operation Tonga? Or did it even take place in/near Normandy?

I didn't know it at first but as I was playing some coop BIA EIB with a friend langley remarked to me on xfire that the answer could be found in that game. So I checked and I think he means town Baupte where 101st was supposed to link up with 82nd.

St. Mere Eglise?

Think longer term people, while they did go through Carentan and all that, it wasn't really their target, just necessary passages. Since there is much confusion about this, I'll give out a hint. It's very close to the coast near Utah and Omaha.

Oh yeah, fox, you know the answer so you have an obligation to let the others suffer

-Secure the four causeway exits behind Utah Beach
-Disrupt German communications
-Setup roadblocks to hamper German movements
-Capture Sainte-Come-du-Mont
-Destroy coastal batteries including the Saint-Germain-de-Varreville battery
-Capture and destroy bridges on the Carentan causeway, and those spanning the Douve River at Brevands
-Capture Douve River lock at la Barquette
-Reach Highway 13 at Les Forges
-Link up with the 82nd Airborne
-Secure the Douve River valley

That is Operation Chicago (101st Airborne Operation as of June 5, 1944)

Is this a sufficent answer?

Hmmm, I must say this seems to be a very debatable question. So, I will have to go with the closest answer.

Lazko takes the gold with his answer of Operation Chicago. Btw, very similiar to something I found Wink

Anyway, I'm gonna make a new post for trivia cause this seems to be getting confusing for people who haven't been following it closely.
