What game(s) should the SAS look to induct?

There are ideas in another post from En4cer talking of adopting new games. This post is unofficial, but what games would you most like to see added to our arsenal of Coop gameplay?

My Top Three

1. Operation Flashpoint
2. America's Army
3. Rainbow Six Vegas (When it comes out, I believe that even if the single player were to suck, we could make the multiplayer happen for us with some good tactics and planning)

So what do you say?

OFP or the new game from it's devs.

AAO would be good as far as Vs play goes, hopefully the next version will have good Coop. The bonus is the game is free as in free beer if not free speech.

R6 V is prolly gonna be VEry Gratly Agitatingly S888.

Id put my money on Operation Flashpoint and hopefully the new Armed Assault (see topic in members section) because of the scope of the game and realism.

Americas Army is a bit to… gun hoe, its got some great game play and realism but I think the fact that it was free really won it over big time!

I can’t see any good CQB games in the near future which is a shame but will see how we go.

Cheers

Not that it's any of my business but OFP is a more infantry tactic game, which means a heck of a lot more SOP's for you boys. Ya know, never travel in rows, never using flash bangs, and is basically blasphemy to the SOP's. Though it is a good game, no doubt. AO is probably not a good idea either, because it's basically just clan wars all day. And it can be frustrating to act tactically with enemies that are basically jerks. So, Vegas is probably the best idea. But, then again, it's not my decision and I'm a bit out of place to be discussing.

I cannot fathom that the Lord has blessed us with logic and rationality and have us forgo their use.

SOP

I think it would be a nice change of pace to come up with some SOP for Flashpoint. Like you said (insert name here), the SAS conducts military operations as well...

It is definitely something to look into.

I just pray that Vegas can overcome this evil hype of another lockdown...

Yeah... but if anyone can make it past the mission where you must escape and evade the russian forces, they've pretty much gotten OPF handled. I love the game so much I just had to get a replacement copy of it via Ebay. I own the final Gold edition of the game with the Russian and Insurgent missions. if the SAS holds a server for Co Op (if possible) I'm all over that.

The reason why we have thrown up Flashpoint and the up and coming ArA is because it is different.

The [SAS] have a proud history of CQB games and we have officially played nothing else.

A number of the senior men and officers feel that the [SAS] could go with a slight change and introduce another game which is more of a total war sim.

Flashpoint does just that. It is realistic and the options are endless, it really is air land and sea warfare. Best of all, Special Forces troops are a big part of the game!

Don’t worry, we are not going to be quitting CQB games but rather, adding an extra string to our bow.

I'd like to see SOP's for more convential warefare. I enjoy CQ Combat more then open fields but it's good to change things up a bit.

I like CQ because it's not a common thing that every joe blow does well, it's also rather exerilrating if you turn off your hud and ret's and go for extra realism.

Man, if I wasn't such a computer addict I'd be appling to the police academy in the future ^_^

Hey all

I think (as a old army NCO) that the game OPF and games like that is a great challenges and a new way to go, to attract new qualities to the clan.

I know of other clans that have organized them self like us with a real life like command structure, and are organized in company’s with platoons of 3 squads each. This clan holds TT to for coming members in the squads and so one. I know that they plan special playing dates so that the platoons are present and accounted for. So that they get maximum out of it.

If we wants to have this, it gives the clan the opportunity to make an alternation to our structure. SAS now has the chances to make a special ops / regularly army wing (OPF) with specializes it self in infantry and armor tactics (land war) and a anti terror wing (RVS/SWAT 3-4) with specializes in CQB as we know it.

But the down size with this "big" land war games with large sized platoons is that it will be hard to get your squads and platoons together to play at a regally basis…But it could be fun. I know that it is, because the Danish army have don experiments with OFP as a Vitural tactic trainer for NCO´s and Officers in land war tactics, I have played it with a full infantry platoon of 3 squads off 10 men and a platoon element with a LT, his Oscar and the Fist sergeant (me) that was cool. doing real life tactics, and they works.

Lets just go for Ghost Recon (the old game) that is cool to and more real to get a the right number of players.

Can I get an answer to this question. Online how many people are we talking aobut being able to play on one server?

As you guys can see all members of sas and none members who play on the sas servers have a wide veriety of games that they enjoy playing, not to say that EVR has to implement these games in the clan but they could support them by haveing forums for them.

For instance Ghost Recon, I know when i left there where quite a few people playing this game, so if there was a forum for ghost recon then maybee people who play on ghost recon from the sas servers could spread the news about the SAS website and games they play, then people off other games may start posting on the forum giveing a larger veiw and adding more to the SAS commmunity.

Its just a thought but let me know what you all think. Smile

thank you,

Hey, OFP also can boil down to really messy CQB situations if you have played the final expansion.

I'm gonna download the demo of OFP. It sounds good. It's only a tenner too, if I decide to buy the full version.

I just don't see OFP going well. It's a good game and all, but the core mechanics is like going from Football to Futbol. I mean, I'd love to play it as a tactical squad, but even that is less than realistic. I like CQB, it involves tactical movement through and through, and nothing less without getting shot. The code of honor plays on both though, you watch my back, I'll watch yours. So really, I guess I'm on the fence with it. I already own it, so if you choose OFP it won't be hard for me to jump in.
As far as R6 Vegas goes, I've never seen it, but the guys down at Ubi do aim for perfection, you've seen Brothers In Arms and Splinter Cell haven't you. So they probably docked those jerk a**es pay who made Lockdown and brought in smart guys. But I digress.

I cannot fathom that the Lord has blessed us with logic and rationality and have us forgo their use.

I just can't see what you see "less than realistic" in ofp. It's a bit old but still a great sim. You know even armies use(d) it for training. And BIS has made a whole new series for military based on OFP and it's engine and editor. -----> http://www.virtualbattlespace.com/. And of course it has it's flaws but there are many mods out there to patch that up and bring even more realism to the game.

The things that make OFP less than Realistic:
--The Simple Fact that any T-72, T-80, etc. have any slight fighting change against an M1A1 Abram.
--All upper class officers wear that funky hat (irrelevant to gameplay, I know, but plain stupid). It's literally sticking out like a soar thumb.
--You can reload LAW's
--Your AI enemy seems to be always moving in rows on patrols (They're Soviets, I know, but they aren't stupid.)
--The game is less forgiving than RvS, you stand up, lay down, or run out, they tag you right in the face, even on Easy mode.
--I could go on, but I'd rather seem less like a jackass.
My point is, the games good, but like all games, it has the feel, but lacks the realism.

You'll have to score a copy off of E-Bay or another auction site, as majority of gameshops do not even carry pre-owned verisons of this game anymore.

All valid points Langley, and while I don't disagree with you, I have to point out that RvS lacks realism in ways of its own (i.e. the 300 yard mac 11 to the face that we have all received at one time or another). Show me a criminal that can do that and I'll show you a man with a spot on my team. I would welcome OFP as a nice change of pace, and I'm sure some of you wouldn't mind helping me with the SOPs, especially you military boys. I'm good about CQT and Urban Movement, but the wide open spaces of OFP would be new to me. I plan to track down a copy of it this weekend, and maybe some of you wouldn't mind playing a few and seeing what we can come up with?

Also, Vietcong and Far Cry.

Vietcong Purple Haze should run either 9.99 to 19.99 these days as it includes the Fist Alpha expansion pack. A good game and one that I got my online co op fix on before jumping to Raven Shield. 8 player support and is classed based, as in it may be wise to have at least one engineer and one medic on the team. You can also limit how many players can be a certain class, so you don't get a sniperfest going on. Anyone can pick up any dropped weapons, but it's not always the best idea (some players used to dump their whole ammo into trees before running at players with a live frag then later come and pick up the hidden mags).

Vietcong 2 is out but I haven't purchased a copy of it yet, lack of funds and all, but it's running for 9.99 at my local EB I visit. It's supposed to be ok, if you're a Vietcong 1 fan and offers up the same style Co op in both jungle and urban settings.

Far Cry, while orginaly not co op, has a few mods out there now that's co op focused both on the single player missions and fan made maps. It's fun stuff especialy when you're dealing with Trigen and Mercs with indoor/outdoor mixed levels.

T-80's are not peices of crap.

Only a few tanks I'd be worried about besides the M1 Abrams and T-80 and T-90 is one of them.

OFP is based around the cold war when the soviets were pretty on par with the yanks, thanks weren’t insane back then, it still required the commanders skill and if you just stay in one spot in OFP you're a gonner.

The FFUR mod brings OFP into “Modern Combat” and with this mod the T80 is a bit of a dead weight as the Americans press home their advantage.

Yes you're right, the officers head gear is a bit annoying but you should know how many hundreds of addons there our out there!

Yes you can reload LAW’s, ill give you that.

AI in flashpoint isn’t dumb, they have a lot of different field formations.

I wont get cut down all the time, you can really escape some big time flukes but if you have ever been paintballing then you know how hard it is running through and open field or being in the enemies sites and not getting shit. Their reactions are norm speed and not insanely fast like RvS and the like but they can shoot no dought about it.

The game is old by gaming standards yet it surpass’s a lot of the junk coming out these days. And I cant stress enough that we don’t have to do massive field formations, working in a tight 4 man squad calling in air support is dam well fun!

-The formation of the enemy isn't fault of AI. If you ever done even some editing you know it's the mapmaker than can force AI's behaviour, formation, speed and combat mode with waypoint settings.

-About that getting shot instantly when getting up, I don't know what version or mod you have been playing but I have already so many times came over a hill to face an enemy squad and when you then hit the dirt and the distance is greater than 200m then even the mg's have hard time hitting you. I usually see first about 20 rounds hitting next to me before I get hit/killed, while in RvS or SWAT4 suspects can shoot you from impossible angles/distances with a handgun (no offence for RvS or swat Blum 3 I love those gaame too.)

So I wanted to say every game has flaws but if we start to mention all those little things then no game could be accepted as "realistic". But I guess everyone has their own opinnion about that.

The question I ask is if we started in SWAT3, how did we end up in Rainbow Six 3 ?

I stand by my statement, T-80's are pertty bad, they have fuel tanks on their rear if I remember correctly, and their bore evacuater is located to close to the tank itself, and the range of the Abram is far superior to that of any T model, ask anyone in desert storm. But that's not the point, I hate for me to sound like I dont like the game, because I do like the game. It's fun and realistic, and believe me, I'll be the first to curse when I get shot with a DE 50. from a football field away on RvS. I'm speaking in terms of being on the fence, neutral if you will.

I cannot fathom that the Lord has blessed us with logic and rationality and have us forgo their use.

Yes I see what you mean but that kind of detail what you speak of would make ofp a real simulator and as you know those do exist and aren't cheap. Just look at VBS (link I posted earlier) that ahs all the details and terrain and all vehicle specs but also costs 1300$ for whole pack. And if you still want all the armor specs there are more than enough mods that can provided that.
