I thought the majority killed it? lol

Linking the downloads from the training videos to our video gallery might be cool too

I split this into a new topic.

We got rid of the old chat box because it caused bugs on the site.

However the idea of a chat box is a good one, and I could probably make something similar myself which would not produce the same glitches.

Hmm, I'll think about that one. In the mean time, do other people think this is a good idea?

yes chat box was the name and I think it would be a great idea to have back with or without the old glitches as it allows realtime chat from just about any computer so aim and other 3rd party programs wont have to be installed.

The Chat box idea was great... I support the effort to make a new one.

Yes dave, every visitor, even when not logged in can see the chatroom. However only SAS members can chat in them. Other registered users cannot.

Exactly. Everyone can view it, only Rct and up can post to it.

If you think it would be better being private though I can do that, tell me what you think.

Well since the main public cant post, why should they even be allowed to see it?. lot of it is jokes aswell so lets keep that private.

So guess what I'm in for making it private. Blum 3

Only thing in it being public is that when new prospective recruits come to the site its very warm to see us chatting in that chat box and it may make people want to join into an active gaming community.

excellent point there python as most groups dont have a chat box this would make us unique

Yes, I might point out though that we lose that benefit if it's full of rubbish. I always pictured it would be used, among other things, for posting little notices like "anyone want to join me in RvS #2 for some elemental work?" or "Wiz come on AIM I need to talk to you" or "anyone want a team game I'm in server 1 now". You can still use it for just chat though.

It's used for that stuff too, saves a few forum posts lol. But lot of chat on it, after all it is called the "Chat Box" not the "Tac Box" lol

As long as we keep the usual professional frame of mind I don't see any reason to make it members only - inless GCHQ Wants a private one for there use to agment Forums/Comms/GroupChats/E-Mail/etc

I think the chatbox history should be shortened. Why do we need to see messages 8, 10 hours old in it?

I think it's nice to see what have been written in the chat-box. If it's getting shortened, people will miss the messages when they're away from the computer for awhile.

It would probably be good if you could click "chat box" and see a longer history if one was to shorten it.

SAS_Webmaster

That would be possible.

I tend to overlook the chatbox a lot, because it is frequently full of old information. I typically don't even read anything time-stamped more then a couple of hours old. I see it as something useful for "on the fly" - as in at that instant." If you got something to say that should be purposely available 10 hours later, then it probably belongs in a different venue...forums, PMs, IMs, email.

I just think it could be cleaned up a little and it will also save some space on the homepage at times, bringing the stuff below it further up.

This is just my personal style though, if people like it the way it is then I'm cool with that.

Is there maybe a possibility to store the Chat Box history somewhere? Well would be kinda interesting for longer discussions in the chat box or a longer chat ... sometimes it really is empty but sometimes it isn't ... would be helpful if the comment limit of 10 is exeeded ...

yeh that error is membership wide. It will get fixed later hopefully. Along with a nice shiny new TS block too. As Moe said above, when they return they will be 'Ajax'

Thanks for your error reporting Dave, very usefull.

Sheesh, Moe turns up, breaks something, then leaves. :smokin:

I'm pretty sure that Ajax means the chat box will update itself without having to reload the rest of the page. So when you press send, only the chatbox module is affected.
