An American Odity

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%242_bill

I remember wondering as a child why the $2 bill was so rare, I've only seen a couple in my life. I remember me and my brother each had one, mine was stuffed away in a box along with various other trinkets most dating back to my birth. I found it a bit interesting about the stuff /w $2 not being accepted, I thought they went out of production but I guess I was wrong, and they are still legal currency too!

I wonder if the part about the shoreleave is true through:)

It is true you can order these from your bank, my sister as a wedding gift recieved a thousand dollars in 2 dollar bills from an uncle who gave them to her one at a time as a child, he simply requested a withdrawl in $2 bills and they called him when they arrived in the bank.

I got a $2 bill as part of my change when I bought lunch. That was some cool stuff.

UK currency is one thing I've never tried to grasp.

Hmmm, £5 coins I wonder what it would look like some one having a few hundred of those laying around Smile

You think UK is strange spidey? ... germany had a 5 DM coin as well as a 5 DM bill ... before the euro ...

Another strange thing about the germany currency was that the value of the cooper of the coin with the lowest value was more valuable then the value of the coin... so the cooper of this coin was 1,5 of the value the coin represented ...

They're just crap though. Why would you want a coin when a note is smaller and lighter.

Thats why hardly anyone has ever had one. Although they are not circulated, they are legal tender and there are some about. Your right though they are huge and bloody heavy.

lol I see what you mean Miles.

Our penies (coin worth 1/100th of $1), the older ones (pre 1980something) I've herd have enough of something in'em you can use them for extra heatsinks. Not bad way to spend a few rolls of lowest currency Smile

Wouldn't it just be bliss if we all walked around with smart cards linked to our bank accounts and money was money where ever you went ? No converting between DM, bucks, pounds, euro, and I don't want to think about some other things.

But then get a virus on your "Credit Card" and all your money is trainsfered to some one elses account hahahhahahaa!

Spidey, that is a credit card. U can go to any cash machine in any country and get cash in that native currency. Strange but true

I still prefer using cash though. Not sure why, but I would almost always rather pay with cash than use a card. I hate when people are buying small, cheap things in the line in front of you at a shop... then they pay by card!

It's probably because I find cash easier to keep track of. If I just use my card I can spend as much as I like without noticing. :ohwell:

I suppose £50 notes are quite rare here, but not as rare as your $2 it sounds. They're bloody rare in my wallet anyway, since I don't often have that much money!

£50's are quite rare because lots of places wont accept them still. This is not because they arent legal tender; but because it is the highest value, they are the highest target for forgers. Despite the fact they re-issue a new version every 2 years or so.

it doesnt work though Spidey, the national debt is huge, people cant re-pay. The only time it will work is when banks drop their charges, which i cant see them doing.

Personally, I'd definitely rather pay with something physical than anything digital. Computers go wrong. A lot. Paper doesn't.
