In Honor of 6/6/06

I'm not one for superstition, but the "Day of the Devil" seems to be rooted in the minds of some as a day for celebration and... "worship" of a sort.

At 3 o'clock this morning, my time, we received a call out to an abandoned mill next to a small suburbian subdivision. The consensus between officers was that some kids were just having a party, since the same location had been used for raves some time before.

I was coming back from my break and heading to uniformed patrol with 6 other officers who work the downtown circuit with me. We had a small caravan of cars/trucks traveling down the road when we heard the call and responded. We flashed the lights and sirens when we arrived, and most of the group dispersed immediately, only 3 stayed behind. I stepped out of my truck and the other officers followed suit, identifying ourselves as SWAT Officers and asking them to leave the premises. The boys, who were 19-20 years old, headed for a red cadillac they had parked nearby, and they popped open the trunk as they walked toward it. I made a remark to another officer about how, "I had this suspicious feeling...". Upon reaching the car, one boy got in the driver's seat, one got in the back, and the other reached in the trunk, pulled out an M14 rifle and began firing at us.

We took cover behind the cars, and made our way to the trunks where we grabbed higher-powered weapons. The car began to back out slowly and the boy was still shooting at us while his friends began to drive away very slowly. I laid down behind the car and had an angle to fire on the boy, while other officers did the same, and we all fired. (You don't mess around with people like that, you don't shoot to wound, you kill them.) The boy jerked and dropped instantly, dead. His friends stopped the car, and the driver got out with his hands up and walked toward us screaming "Don't shoot, don't shoot!". The boy in the backseat got out and began to make his way toward the trunk slowly. Six officers wearing tac-gear came walking toward him, weapons at the low ready, and he froze and dropped to the ground.

The boy with the rifle was the only one killed, his two friends were in good condition physically. I say physically because they were mumbling about Satan and his "Day of Reckoning" and all that spiritual garbage. They said today was going to bring pain to everyone opposed to them. Three o'clock in the morning is looked upon as the bewitching hour, the opposite hour from when Jesus died on the cross. It is a time for spirits of evil to roam the Earth, supposedly.

In the trunk of the car we found a little over 3 kilos of heroin, 1 AK-74 rifle, 2 .357 Semi-automatics, a small bulletproof vest, and a hand grenade shell that had yet to be filled with explosive. These boys claimed to belong to a gang calling itself, oddly enough, Satan's Army. To put it into perspective in showing you just how crazy they were. You can think about the Children of Taronne mission in SWAT 4, when the residents of the house are spewing that propaganda the whole time... The boys did that the whole way to jail.

Hope your 6/6/06 brings you a little more happiness than it has brought me, insofar. Good luck.

But guys seriously, the 6th of June should really stand out to everyone, as the day that thousands of Soldiers, many will be relatives of either you or people you know; gave their lives for our freedom in the Normandy beach landings of 1944.

LEST WE FORGET.

Well, I think that kid might be meeting his hero just about now, and deciding he followed the wrong one.

Glad you're ok and sounds like you did a good job. Hope the other two rot in jail for a very long time. With 3 kilos of heroin and the weapons I expect that will happen.

i know cali has the 3 strike rule, does yours mean that if you get 3 felonies total or something else cause they have the way it sounds more then 3 there to get life in prison.

Glad you and your officer friends got through it ok. Sad the boy got shot, but better the dangerous one then the cops.

Yeah I know WIZ thats all I heard on the news today about this June 6th. No body stopped to remember what happened in 44. I know I'm eternally gratful to the soldiers of WWII.

Well, it does make me feel better to know it's not just Video Gamers who get the really wacko ones!

California's three-strikes law says that if someone commits a third felony after committing two prior similar felonies, then the sentence is a mandatory 25 years to life

This is both a good thing and a bad thing, as there have been cases where criminals deserve it, and cases where it is seemingly insane. An example of the latter would be a man who stole children's videotapes from stores. Theft is a felony here in California, and the man was given (if memory serves) 44 years in jail for repeated theft. The total cost of all the tapes he stole: 150 dollars. God bless US Lawmakers. Not only did Normandy landing happen on 6/6, but it's also the birthday of king Albert II of Belgium!

It sure is an eventful day!
