News flash! Xfire has agreed to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of MTV Networks, part of the Viacom family. Not only will we enjoy a massive overlap between our audiences but we will also be able to offer even more exciting events and activities!

The Xfire team is fired up to continue to build Xfire as part of the MTV family, and over the coming months and years you will see a number of extremely interesting activities emerging from this new relationship. Xfire will keep growing to enhance your gaming experience. Thanks so much for your support--we still want to know what you want and expect out of Xfire. We will deliver!

I don't like the sound of this very much. I have never and will never watch MTV for my own reasons, and I know Nickelodeon (currently owned by Viacom) started going "down hill" years ago imho when there programing got worse and worse as I was growing up (More crap, less entertainment). But they (Viacom) do own TV Land it can't be all bad, but they took off all my favorite old shows making me move exclusivly to the History (owned by A&E Networks) and The Military (owned by Discovery Communications Inc) channels, so I dunno.

Any ways, I don't like this!!! X-Fire is one truly good program and I've yet to see any thing owned by Viacom that I've used or watched that didn't go sharply down hill again IMHO! after n years...

You are half way there Wiz. It is either you subscribe or you agree to watch banner ads (MTV propaganda) flash breifly while you game online.

Great....... Time to lose my Xfire account. It's bad enough I deal with MTV kiddies in GW and Halo, but to deal with the crappy ads for the Andy show and having to suffer though music genres I find offensive and degrading to tradtional cultures..... no thanks.

My life doesnt revolve around using Xfire in games so Iell have no problem terminating it when they start asking for money.

If it wasn't windows, maybe we'd have a Free Open Sourced Clone by then.

This sounds worrying. I would hate to think that this is the start of advertising infiltrating online gaming. Can you imagine adverts coming on during the loading times between games? I can see it happening
