In The News Today

Recently In Iraq, the largest assault force since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom took place to handle the Terrorists trying to provoke civil war in Iraq. And if you ask me, not a moment too soon.

I cannot fathom that the Lord has blessed us with logic and rationality and have us forgo their use.

Sounds to me like a great plan to go about things completely the wrong way. Again.

I´ve heard that before. And it doesn´t help at all

'When I want your opinion, I'll beat it out of you.' --- 37% of Americans agree that while they would hate being British, they wouldn't mind having a British accent. --- Ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

I do support the Western initiative in Iraq -- stability is needed in that part of the world. But in a nut shell: I believe the overall effort to bring peace stopped short when the war was over. There was a plan for war, but none for peace.

To avoid further conflicts, u have to win hearts and minds of the population where u intervene. That is not done by military force, but by daring to show vulnerability: Talk WITH people, not TO them.

A reading suggestion: "Fighting for peace", by the British general Sir Michael Rose, former SAS commander. He was in charge of UNPROFOR in Bosnia. He travelled the war-torn country in a soft skin Land Rover, where his predecessors had used motorcades and armour. His only company was his bodyguard (a SAS operator, of course). His bravery earned him respect and authority by all three parties involved.

I also read an interview with the Norwegian general Jan Terje Wilhelmsen, who has recently returned from service in Sudan, where he participated in negotiations over the peace agreement. Apart from driving a German car, and having a FSK bodyguard, his tactics where the same: Talk with people face to face, not only to them.

But this is a huge discussion... Blum 3

just a note

Denmark have about 570 soldiers in Southern Iraq. After what we are told from the newspapers ect. they are doing a fine job with helping out the local population with powersupplie, fresh drinking water ect. And they support the british troops outside Basra. More contries should consider to send peace keeping forces, but thats a VERY BIG and hard discussion.

BUT what I wanted to say was:

My old "hairdresser" when i lived in Aalborg was from Iraq. He and me often talked about the situation down there. He was in regulary contact with family and friends in Iraq. And hes overall opinion was that the forign troops was a benifit for the Iraqi government and population. After hes knowledge 80% of the population supported the troops, 10 % did not like them, 9 % was / are angry at the troops and 1% was so angry that they are ready to go to war with the coalitions forces. BUT U ALMOST ONLY HEAR ABOUT THE 1 % !!!!!!!

Think about that when u discuss. But that is ofcource words from a man who live in Denmark (the hairdresser) and might have a feeling that he must say like this. But he seems like a very direct man, and I think hes word came from a honest mouth.

Well. hard issue to discuss.

BTW, I have recently learned how to use the S4 editor, so expect a map out within a week, if I work on it and stay focused. Although, I'm not quite sure how to give it to anyone so I'll just have to find out if it will be just for me Smile
