SUSAT and a few of us were playing Penthouse earlier, and several of the players started typing we needed to go silent in order to beat the map.
So, I replied that during training, we beat this map Loud and in 1 min and 40 secs.
SUSAT was apparently impressed with this, and replied he was officially applying with SAS today, and sure enough.

I did tell them there was a record of some sorts, but couldn't remember the time Biggrin

I told them it was 1 min and 26 secs.

only those who will IMAGE(http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/co/type/2/sasrand.png)

Hi S.U.S.A.T- -- curious what this is an abbrevation for...

Small unit small arms something. I forget what T stands for. It's the optics you find most commonly on the top of an SA80, as well as some others.

S.U.S.A.T stands for Sight Unit Small Arms Trilux, its the scope used on the british L85. I used it a lot when i was in the RAF regiment and i thought it would be an original name Biggrin

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone i look forward to improving my skills in the server with you all and hopefully someday making it onto the selection course.

Hi!

'When I want your opinion, I'll beat it out of you.' --- 37% of Americans agree that while they would hate being British, they wouldn't mind having a British accent. --- Ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

oh sorry , i thought u meant in real life. In UK we use the SA80Mk2 which is the same weapon, i beleive the L85 is a Candadian sub-contract. Now lets talk German ( HK)

I did mean in real life lol, i was in the RAF Regiment and the main weapon we used was the L85 (SA80) with either a SUSAT or an ironsight, there was a third optical sight but i cant remember the name right now.

It was the SA80A2 i used but its pretty much identical to the A1, only thing i noticed was a different cocking handle.

I thought L85 was the Rifle, and SA-80 was the Carbine much like M16/M4 duo.
And if the weapon used is even to the point that real SAS would take C7/C8 's or G 36 family weapons, I'd think that the weapons history must be as bad as our M16. And you can't get worse then some moron telling a solider he has a self cleaning rifle!!!

Wouldnt know though, L85A1 is great in games; but unpopular with most in real lilfe lol.

I don't follow the UK military very much btw.

No spidey, the L85 is the SA80 and the SA80 is the L85, see my privious post for an explanation

L85 isnt popular in real life because if you dont clean it regularly it jams constantly, one session on a range i was using a dirty rifle and it had a stoppage every round even with the gas set to "extra". magazines liked to fall out randomly too.

Nice and light though and can be converted to a LMG by simply adding a longer barrel and tripod.

yes there are 2 versions of that weapon.

Yep, A1 and A2, the A1 is no longer in use (maybe it is in 3rd world countries i dont know) and the GPMG has been replaced by the LMG now ( i never got to use a GPMG but i was in the first ever RAF flight to use the LMG)

no, i meant there are two versions, as well as model updates.

the more common SA80 IW (infantry weapon) and the SA80 LSW (light support weapon) which is basically what you described above.
Also very few were made but they did make a carbine version.

Nice piece of history there S.U.S.A.T, were u impressed with the weapon?

I was impressed with the accuracy in rapid fire, it had good recovery because it was so light. Although that was a bit of a disadvantage during FIBUA training (fighting in built up areas) because every time i whacked someone in the face with it they came back for more lol.

Was also very easy to take appart and reassemble in the dark/blindfolded.

Light weapons are an infantry soldiers best friend, when your on a 15 mile TAB with full bergen and webbing the last thing you want is another 10kg to carry.

Yea i think the AK47 kicked the M16's ass lol

wow who would have thought a hello thread could reach 2 pages 8O

Yeah, the L85/SA80 thing kinda hijacked it lol.....

If I remember right.

M16 = F.O.R.D. Like rifle.

Solider might not get a shower for 6 weeks, but his weapon'd be spick & span. Less he get a jam while in a VC Sandwhich.

AK47 = Solider Proof.

Could probaby take an AK apart, soak it in mud for a week, put it back together, miss a few parts; and it'd still shoot (maybe not so well when it blows up in ya face^_^) but still shoot even if it was abused badly.

politics and preferences aside. The AK47 is the most reliable weapon in current use.

I'll also give a thumbs up for the G3 rifle (or AG3 as it is branded here), when it comes to reliability. It works in - 40 degrees in northern parts of our country, as well as in + 40 in intops.

it is heavy though, has a low mag cap (20) and a recoil that can bruise ur chin.

But it works...

...and a recoil that can bruise ur chin.

Yeah, I remember some noobs at the shooting range in the recruit-period, who place their chin WAY too close to the rear sight when aiming (G3A3). The result can be a bruise :).

Right behind the rear sight, like this:
